Reviews: What People Think About ASTB Prep

I highly recommend the ASTB app, developed by Alex, to anyone preparing for the ASTB. Alex is incredibly passionate about helping you reach your goals and achieve your dream of becoming a naval aviator. In conjunction of this app and other study materials, I was able to achieve a 9/8/8 on my ASTB exam! One of the app's standout features is its unique practice sections, such as Terrain Association and the UAV section, which are difficult to find elsewhere. These, along with the other sections, provide comprehensive preparation for the test. My reaction time improved significantly by using the app's various practice tools, which simulate real exam conditions. The app offers valuable insights into the range of topics covered in each sub-section, helping me feel well-prepared for what to expect. The practice tests mirror the real exam’s time limits and question formats, making it an excellent tool for simulating exam conditions. While the actual ASTB may not always have the exact number of questions, this app comes very close to recreating the experience. Once again, I highly recommend buying this app, its only $20 to get you a step closer to achieving your dream career.

I am not in the navy, however I originally got this app to help prepare me for eventually commissioning into the navy, as well as just for fun with one of my buddies who is in the navy right now and has taken the real astb.
We have both been using this app for the past year. This app recently came out on the mac app store around June 2024, which is incredibly helpful when it comes to the stick and throttle portion and uav portion of the astb. This makes everything about this app very similar to the actual exam.
My buddy who is in the navy just took his astb the other day, after a few months of using the mac version of this app, and he got 9/8/8. Needless to say, he would have never gotten the score he did without the use of this amazingly resourceful app. 10/10 would recommend if you are or are planning on taking the astb in the future, this app will best prepare you for it.

I got a 9/9/8 on the real ASTB and was able to get a pilot slot in the Navy. This app was my primary means of studying. It’s really an excellent tool and prepares you great for the actual test, definitely better than the study book I got.
The only sections that the app didn’t prepare me very well for was joystick and throttle PBM and reading. The reading section on my ASTB just asked “what statement best describes the passage?” For every question, and every passage was an excerpt from military publications describing policies or programs. My study book was structured the same as the app so I imagine the reading section has changed in recent times.
As far as throttle and joystick, my only issue with it is using your thumbs doesn’t translate well to the actual test, but free sims online like the Jantzen sim work excellently too, so using that in conjunction with this app is one of the best ways to prepare.
As far as terrain identification and spatial appreciation there is nothing out there that beats this app, both sections were structured just like the actual test and are an excellent resource.
Overall really great work, and a reasonable price when you consider what you get for your money, and how much comparable study tools cost like books.
About ASTB Prep
The ASTB (Aviation Selection Test Battery) is used by the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard to select candidates for pilot and flight officer training programs. A shorter version of the ASTB called the Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR) is used by the U.S. Navy to select candidates for Officer Candidate School (OCS). These exams are used by the organizations discussed above to determine a candidate's future success in military officer training programs. A candidate must do well on the respective exams to have a better chance of being offered a commissioning slot. Furthermore, the better you do on the exams, the more opportunities you will have in the naval services.
In this APP, you will have access to:
∙ 73 Lessons with review sections
∙ The ability to track your progress through the syllabus
∙ Over 140 flashcards to help you memorize pertinent information faster.
∙ Create and edit custom flashcards
∙ Over 600 sample test questions
∙ Unlimited Practice Tests using the same question logic as the actual exam (This is the only product out there currently doing this)
∙ Simulators to help you prepare for the UAV Component, Terrain Identification Component, and the Stick and Throttle Components of the PBM Test Section (This is the only product that offers this)
∙ Review errors made on the practice tests with the correct answer and explanations for select questions
∙ View previous test results and assess your progress
The OAR is comprised of 3 subtests, the Math Skills Test (MST), Reading Comprehension Test (RCT), and Mechanical Comprehension Test (MCT). The ASTB incorporates 7 subtests, including the 3 subtests in the OAR. In addition, it includes the Aviation and Nautical Information Test (ANIT), Naval Aviation Trait Facet Inventory (NAFTI), Performance Based Measures Battery (PBM), and the Biographical Inventory with Response Validation (BI-RV). This app has lessons covering all of the tests discussed above so that the app will prepare you for the ASTB or OAR. Furthermore, it is the only product with a simulator to help you prepare for the UAV Component, Terrain Identification Component, and the Stick and Throttle portions of the PBM.
The ASTB and OAR are digital tests, and they are not linear in the way questions are asked. Both tests use adaptive processing, and the software will ask questions of greater or lesser difficulty if the test taker answered the question correctly or incorrectly, respectively. This app has practice tests for the MST, RCT, MCT, and ANIT that incorporate the same question logic and scoring, and you will be able to take an unlimited amount of practice tests on the subjects you need to work on. Furthermore, using the app's advanced scoring system, you will know whether or not you are ready to take the ASTB or OAR with the greatest accuracy. Once the app has been purchased, no cellular data or Wi-Fi is required to run the app, making it the ideal solution to use when studying for these tests on the go or deployed.
