Kauai Revealed Drive Tour

I do not like to pay for apps, but this was worth every penny! After reading great reviews, and wanting to get the most out of our eight days on the island, we decided to purchase & we commented many times how great the app is. Andrew has a great narrator voice & the accuracy of the gps along with the content was all perfectly timed, with the right amount of content (historical, anecdotal, informative) balanced with quiet. What he shared was accurate and interesting with almost no exceptions. However, anything that was closed or not available may be a seasonal issue as we went during rainy season and things may have been closed due to that. We affectionately called our guide “Andy” & we turned him on every time we went in the car, hoping for a new tidbit of info. His tips took us to the popular destinations as well as remote beaches (one cloudy day, we went to about 6-7 all in a row on the north side), we even stopped into a specific 7-11 he suggested for a local food purchase (we didn’t love it—sorry “Andy”—but it was so fun to try!) One person within our group works on apps for a living and he thought it was great too! I don’t want to give away all of the great things about it, but I recommend anyone heading to the island to get this app.

I bought Andrew Dougherty’s Kauai Revealed book (for the second time, since my last trip was 5 years ago… his new edition just came out a couple months ago, and boy have things changed in those 5 years!). I read the book almost cover to cover, and was trying to remember tidbits, facts, and stories to tell my family as we were driving around the island. THEN I saw the ad in the back of the book for this app. At first the price felt a little steep, but because I like the writing in the book, and because there were so many good reviews, I went ahead with the purchase. Oh my goodness, what a good decision that was! My teens and spouse adored listening to Andrew pop on the car radio as we were going from here to there. We are now big fans of Shave Ice (with the ice cream bottom), and can confirm that the Hee Fat store and JoJo’s both have the best selection and flavor. Sooo good. Andrew is a good speaker and interesting to listen to; we actually learned a huge amount of island history just during our drives. Also cool was setting up a Hawaiian radio station on Pandora and listening to that in between the times Andrew would start talking. Finally, you absolutely must have an in-car charger for your phone, or your battery will be dead by afternoon and you won’t be able to take pics at your fun destination. Thanks Andrew and team!

We just got back from a week on Kauai and this app was brilliant. We were on the island for a medical conference and so had limited time to explore, so taking drives and making stops along the way with Andrew’s narration was perfect. We agreed that we would have paid three times as much for the app, it was that valuable. Just one suggestion…the author stays very current on local conditions, but we did run into one area where maybe the narration should be altered. We stayed away from Queen’s Bath because his warnings convinced us October was NOT the time to visit. However, when we visited Wailua Falls he goes into detail about how to get down to the falls (with the caveat that the government doesn’t want you down there—so he does suggest not to do it.) Despite the warning signs posted, we made the hike. It was treacherous and amazing and we were glad we did it, but when we safely returned to the overlook we discovered that recently the government started fining you for going down there. Fortunately it didn’t happen to us, but it happened to others. We also found out a hiker died at the base of Wailua Falls just one week prior to us going down the trail, probably one of many reasons the government made the trail illegal. You may want to update that little section with some firm warnings the way you did with Queen’s Bath. Just a suggestion! Seriously though, an incredible app and was the best thing we bought for our trip!
