Articulation Station Hive

One thing that I have learned during the pandemic is time is precious. Years ago, when I discovered Articulation Station, I sold all of my time consuming flashcards. Gone were the days of fumbling through card decks to sort targets by positions and phonological process while clients waited impatiently. My laminator gathered dust and my materials budget saw some relief because I was not constantly ordering printer ink, card stock, and laminating sheets. Then, along came Articulation Station Hive to solve for more time consuming problems. Now, my apraxia flashcards are up for sale and the only app I need for articulation, phonological, and apraxia therapy is this one. I use the app religiously in my private practice for discriminating minimal pairs; engaging syllable/ word/ phrase/ sentence/ story level stimuli; recording clients; collecting data; and motor movement practicing via syllable sliders. This new and improved app not only benefits me, but also engages clients of all ages because it’s incredibly interactive. As always, I thank these developers for making my SLP life easier, so I can spend more time practicing content and less time prepping, organizing, setting up, and packing away materials.

I have been a long time fan of Articulation Station, but I have to say, the new Articulation Station Hive has everything I never knew I was missing! It offers the ability to work at every level, from isolation to conversation. The animated pictures representing various sounds are engaging and memorable (and did I mention they are animated?!?) At the syllable level, sliders give you the opportunity to walk your students through the sound blending process. New pictures and target words have been added as well as a fun new spinner sentences. One of my favorite new features is the conversation level. Beautiful picture scenes are offered with a ton of clickable pictures to give additional conversation starters. Another choice at the conversational level is an array of interesting questions such as “would you rather?” and “have you ever?” sets. For your students with phonological processes, this app has you covered because there are a ton of minimal pairs. For score reporting, there are new graph features. And as if all of this is not enough, Hive throws in a fun little extra and offers you the ability to change the app background with seasonal and holiday backgrounds. If you treat kids (older or younger) with speech sound disorders, this app is a must have!!!

I have been a loyal follower of this app for many years. They are easy to work with and respond to any questions I have quickly and are always so helpful. I am very excited about their new app and used the seven day trial and as expected, I love it. They are very good to update their apps and keep them running smoothly. All the scores and information stored in one app is great and everything transferred over smoothly to the new program. Cons are definitely the subscription. The new program in my opinion just doesn’t contain enough new material to warrant the subscription. The program can be slightly cumbersome to navigate quickly and I don’t like the new font or font size of the editable emails I send to parents with the word lists. Not as easy to read and too small compared to the other program. I also would love if there were more stories like in the stories app. All that being said, I do love the program and the helpfulness of the programmers and the thoughtfulness that went into the app. I also love the homework idea that was in the other review. That would be incredibly helpful if it could be added to this program.
