I found this course through the boaters ed website. It said this course was faster so i decided it was worth the extra money. Unfortunately i had no idea i would be redirected to a mobile app to take the actual course. This shouldve been made clear before purchasing but it was too late for me. I saw the reviews and was obviously concerned, especially for the infamous fire extinguisher phase. I honestly crashed out at that step ngl. But after a few failed attempts i came back and tried to mimic the way the finger does it in the demo. By tracing my finger exactly as the tutorial you receive after failing, by a miracle i passed that step. There is a legit certification that is emailed to you at the end of the course. Your permanent boaters card will be mailed to you within a few weeks. This course took me about 3 hours total. I skipped through all the dialogue and just sped through the quizzes. If i actually read the dialogue it would be a painful experience, but luckily i didnt have to. Knowing what i know, i would recommend just taking a standard course. It really is a shame that people cant pass the course, not because of the information, but because of a glitch in a game. Seems stupid to me. But if youre reading this review its probably too late. Dont give up to easily at the fire extinguisher, there is hope. Good luck

I’ve taken on other boating courses before and truthfully this one isn’t that bad this an easy to consume course for the beginner boater. It’s can be a little tedious and annoying at time with the constant text but the activities and study guides throughout are pretty good at explaining boat safety laws and rules. If you are a avid boater and have taken courses prior do yourself and a huge favor and skip this course, but if you’re looking to get into boating and want to learn in a fun and easy to understand way check this out!

I have 3 kids who are taking this course and we haven’t had any issues. They’ve been able to move between the computer and the app on their phones with no issues and it picks up where they left off. Two of my kids have difficulty learning and they both enjoyed the format. My third reads well above grade level and skipped through all the “unnecessary” dialog. It appealed to all the learning types in my family and worked perfectly. I have 2 suggestions: 1. it would be helpful if there was a read aloud version for people who struggle to read. I had to read it all to two of my kids. Their comprehension is great, they just can’t read a lot of the words. 2. State what an acronym stands for the first time it’s used. For example, “VDS” is used but not explained until a short while later. My daughter asked me what I meant and I had to Google it. Not that it’s a big deal, but having it together (acronym and words) helps retain what it stands for. Now, on to the infamous fire extinguisher task. Remember my daughters that I referred to earlier? One completed the task on her first try and the other on her second try, both using this app. The success or failure of completing the task has to do with the user, not the app. Finally, reading these reviews and the developer’s often hilariously snarky, yet accurate responses, was the icing on the cake.
