I purchased the FlickType app back on August 28, 2020 from the App Store when it cost $1.99 and did not have in-app purchases and have it installed on my Apple Watch, but I cannot use customization features whatsoever, like swiping to type and autocorrect because when I open the iPhone app and am on the โWatchโ screen, hitting either the โSettingsโ button or the โUnlock Nowโ button results with a pop up error that reads โError performing request.โ I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it, and there are 0 results on this issue searching Google. Iโve tried reinstalling the app and have had no success. I am using it on an iPhone X running iOS 14.3 and my Apple Watch Series 4. I REALLY hope the developer helps me figure out what is going wrong because I had high hopes for this being on my watch and all I can do is manually type without autocorrect, so itโs basically useless at this point. This issue has persisted since I paid for the app several months ago and am so frustrated that I am apparently the only person having this issueโฆ
Iโve enjoyed my time with Flicktype so far. While itโs unfortunate that Apple doesnโt yet support 3rd party input methods in the stock Messages app, the developer has implemented some clever workarounds that I think work almost just as well to make replying to messages with a full keyboard on the watch so easy. The keyboard itself works surprisingly well for such a small screen and I keep finding myself shocked as the correct word pops on screen after I just tapped the keyboard on screen a few times in almost the exact same places. Other than the lack of being able to directly reply to notifications (again, out of the developerโs control) everything about this feels โstockโ and exactly how Apple themselves would handle this sort of functionality within watchOS. I think this is a great example to show Apple how much 3rd party input methods would benefit the next version of watchOS!
I literally just downloaded this app. Very happy with my purchase and works as advertised. I have been playing around with it on my Apple Watch and it works really well. So nice to be able to type on a keyboard and not have to say aloud everything I want to send in a text. I gave 4 stars because there needs to be some improvement with keyboard accuracy. Itโs odd but when I tried spelling the word keyboard I couldnโt get it to type the letter โbโ. Pros: 1. Finally! A keyboard for Apple Watch. 2. Security. I donโt have to say out loud what I want typed. I can keep my message discrete. 3. So much easier to reply to messages on my AW. 4. Easy to type on. Other than the letter โbโ problem above, typing was very accurate. Cons: 1. I know this cannot be helped but the app has to be switched back and forth from iMessages app to the FlickType keyboard. A lot of going back and forth for messaging. 2. Not sure if this can be helped but better integration between the FlickType keyboard and the iMessages app. 3. Iโm always making mistakes with the back button. I want to delete one letter and it deletes the whole word making me start over again. Could be user error on this and I will have to play around with it a bit more to find out. But, overall, a good app. Needs some improvement but that will come later by the dev. The app functions as advertised and I think itโs worth the $3 bucks to support the dev and hopefully get more updates to improve functionality and to add more features. Definitely a ๐๐ป
