It’s been over 30 years since I studied German in high school and while I still have some memory of the language I had forgotten most of the rules of grammar and many vocabulary words. Now, in my 50s, I want to relearn German so I might travel to or even live in Germany. Andre is a fantastic teacher. He assessed my knowledge of German and created a bespoke curriculum for me suitable for a student with intermediate beginner level skills. We meet weekly and I find his manner very approachable and he is easy to relate to. He has a remarkable understanding of grammar and knows many tricks to remembering how to apply the rules of German for native English speakers. Every week he assigns my homework (Hausaufgabbe) and the lessons and exercises challenge me to excel. When we review the homework, Andre is extremely helpful in his corrections and his enthusiasm encourages me to continue to learn and not be afraid of making mistakes. Andre is very organized and mature for a young man with natural innate pedagogical skills. He is flexible with rescheduling if needed and is reliably on time every week. We’ve only had a few lessons so far, and I already feel like I have made significant progress. If you want to learn (or relearn) German you could not ask for a better teacher. If you are an older student like I am, don’t let that stand in your way of mastering German. Andre is excellent and I know you will do well under his tutelage. Andre isn’t Einstein super Lehrer und eine sear freundliche Person!
1.) app closes whenever you lose service 2.) overall construction is really eccentric. It’s hard to do basic things like copy and paste. 3.) whenever the app closes and you lose service and if you are reading something in the chatroom, you have to scroll all the way back and find it when you get service. totally ruins your learning flow. 4.) you can’t just buy one lesson. I’ve had 20+ lessons with one teacher and I need just one more before the langauge test I have coming up, but I have to spend $100+ to get a minimum of 6 lessons. 5.) they keep updating it and changing everything to make things worse. PLEASE JUST GO BASIC. I’ve mis-scheduled things more than once due to their “innovations.” The team must feel really smart and accomplished, but really they’re just making things unnecessarily complicated. Why can’t it be basic? Why do you have to change everything? 6.) again, the interface is just garbage. They really need to hire a basic software engineering team to clean it up. It’s atrocious. After studying with my teacher for 8 months, I’m just going to call it quits because this app is atrocious. 7.) you have to listen to audio files from front to back. you can’t skip to the middle if there is a word you don’t understand. this is very irritating considering many files are 3+ minutes long. UPDATE: took an aptitude test. after taking the test (15 mins), it has me login, and then the results disappear. I’d have to take it again. ASDGLAKGDSHAL this app drives me crazy.
I started learning mandarin last year and used DuoLingo, Du, and other websites with educational programs and nothing compares to Preply. First of all, the app is so organized. They send you notifications on things like class reminders, motivation, resources, etc. The design of the app is very user friendly. There are so many teachers in the platform, all with different experience and education, so you truly have options and range for budgeting. My teacher is amazing, her reviews were great. After every lesson, she sends me a pdf of what we worked on, and highlights the parts I have to memorize by next class. She sends me links of resources, PowerPoints, I sometime send her pics of my writing and mandarin memes, she is kind and knows when to push me further. I love how students leave detailed reviews, it really helps to choose your teacher. Also, the teachers have the option to make a video or a written introduction about themselves, and you can have a chat with them or even book a session to get to know them before you get the weekly subscription. I’m just so happy I found this app through an add, its really helping me level up my mandarin. Good luck to everyone out there on their language journey!
