I absolutely love this app, but I rated it 4 stars instead of 5. Only because I am completely blind, and some of the features are not accessible with screen reader. I use voiceover on an iPhone, and some of the buttons cannot be clicked on while using screen reader, and for some reason are not picked up or read by the voice over. it’s a bit frustrating to say the least. But other than that, it’s a very good app. Lots of great poetry on here and I love the fact that it is a interactive community where you can talk to other poets/poetry readers and discuss different poems. You can also record yourself, reciting the poems, listen to other peoples recordings, and post your own poetry and get feedback. So needless to say it is very useful. I only have one other suggestion other than for the app to be more accessible, and that is maybe to add a spot where you can add a personal bio to your profile. When I click on original Poems from other users, there is a spot to click where you can visit the persons profile. It says about the poet, but there is no spot for you to read anything about them. They’re also should be an option to add maybe what the poem is about when you post one of your original poems. It would be nice to be able to tell the community what inspired the poem when you wrote it or what it is supposed to be about. Just a suggestion though. I don’t know besides these, there are really no other suggestions to offer. It’s an awesome app and the pro membership is at a super affordable price of only $1.99 per month.
I love this app! I joined as a free subscriber and enjoyed reading a daily poem, immersing myself in a different poet each week (it alternates between a contemporary poet and an older one), and interacting with the community through comments and recordings. After a few months, I decided to upgrade to the paid version, mostly just to support this app I love so much. It’s brilliant both ways, but I love being able to access all the curated lists and go on rabbit trails through all the poems the developers have linked together. definitely a healthier scrolling than any other app on my phone! as a homeschooling mom of two small kids trying to continue my own learning in the in-between moments, poesie is truly a godsend.
Poesie seems to be a true labor of love. It has evolved a lot over the year or so I have had it installed, with new content and features added regularly. It was originally just poetry but now also features short stories (a form Poesie reintroduced me too). It has never asked for money, but encourages interaction both with the poems and stories and other readers. Simple to use, it gently introduces users to new classic literature in small bites. It brings me a lot of joy. Highly recommended. Update 5 Apr 2020: Poesie has recently switched to a subscription platform. They offered all existing subscribers a free year subscription, but I was very happy to give them money straight away, since this has become one of my single favorite apps. And a much needed one in these troubled times.
