I used to have Skype with Japanese phone numbers, so that my old parents can call me anytime with better price. The call comes to my US cell phone and if I use the app to call, it shows my Japanese number on the caller ID. Most companies just allowed business owners to own the numbers, but Sonetel allowed individuals to own the foreign numbers, too. The account registration and phone number registration come with strict ID proofing. The customer services walk you through every step. It took 3-4 days to complete. Photo quality did not pass numerous time on my end, but I finally figure out what format worked. It is now working great.

It took a few days but Sonetel worked to port my US based phone number after Microsoft cancelled its Skype subscribers and poorly managed to offer an alike or better solution at reasonable price. So far Sonetel’s App has worked fine. It allow me to receive calls forwarded to my primary mobile number outside US and SMS directed through my email at a very affordable monthly cost using the basic plan. The sound quality is good. I have not tested the availability of the phone keypad during calls yet, which is critical to validate or provide codes to some institutions while speaking. Making calls using the App and showing my US ported number requires upgrading to the next higher tier plan but yearly rate is still more affordable than MS-Teams for what I need, so I think I will upgrade. The customer support has been very kind and helpful resolving a couple of setting up issues through email within reasonable time. As part of App updates, I wished they worked to have the SMS shown within the App just for convenience. In general so far I am happy with the App and the Sonetel team.
