Quite some time ago, before your recent updates to this app, I gave it a bad rating. I am writing to thank you, and to say that I have now changed my mind. I am amazed and pleased with this app now, and use it every day, on my iPhone 13, and it works great. Thank you for your effort, time, and all of your hard work, to help blind persons to be more independent, and have access to more information. I would recommend this app now, to everyone.
First, thanks to the developers of envision AI for staying so engaged with the user community and constantly making the app better. It is really a valuable tool! My favorite thing about this app is the document scanner. It is by far the most accurate OCR I’ve ever experienced on my iPhone. A couple years ago I purchased something called KNFB reader which if I recall was like $100 and it cannot compete with envision OCR. The instant text feature can be very useful but I feel it also has room for further development. It continuously re-scans what you are aiming it at, sometimes resulting in garbled output, and it constantly cuts off and interrupts its own output even if you barely move your phone. It’s really a game of seeing if you can make out what it says well enough to at least accomplish the task. For example, if I aim it at a carton that I pull out of the fridge and I hear something that sounds similar to “milk” or “half-and-half,” I know what I’ve just grabbed, but I really think it could work a lot more smoothly. I have a suggestion – somehow combine the object recognition and instant text technologies such that the instant text reader has some awareness of what you are pointing it at. In my milk carton example, it would know that it’s reading within the bounds of that object which might help it focus. Along similar lines, I have a heck of a time getting it to read LCD screens on home appliances and electronics. I wish there was a way you could tell it to recognize an LCD screen and have it only focus on text that appears on that screen. This is a suggestion I made a while back and it hasn’t been implemented yet, but I can’t imagine others wouldn’t find it helpful. Giving it five stars because overall I still think it’s outstanding, but I hope to see it continue to improve. Thank you
I purchased this app a few months back after trying it for a month and really liked it. However, Within the past month, the changes made have made the app useless. It no longer says what edges aren't visible so that I can move it in the correct direction to get the full image. Secondly, the text is now not viewable by flicking through the screen. You have to wait for it to read it, so getting instructions off a box for cooking is tedious. I didn't checkto see if it would read word by word, but who wants to do that when trying to Prepare something?Thirdly, when I went to stop my auto payment, the options of subscriptions are not read. I had to click on one of the unread items and then since I happened to click on the one I already subscribed too, it mentioned this fact and other info. I was then able to click the manage button and successfully unsubscribe. Until this app improves, I will not reccommend it to anyone. I was using IOS 12 last month and IOS 13 in the past few days, IOS isn't the issue. I'm using an iphone 8 and have been for the past couple years. I hope you improve this app back to one that is as good or even better than the one I used when purchasing the subscription.
