DogMoji Sticker & Emoji Maker

I downloaded this app because the art style was appealing and it said there were over 800+ combinations to choose from. I think I was expecting something a little more comprehensive, like Bitmoji where you can choose a breed (face shape), then apply any coloring of your choosing to the face, eyes, etc. However, once you choose a breed, there are maybe 10 options for eyes (which make no change to the dog’s expression), and then maybe 5 options for coloring. For pit bulls, there is only solid white, black, grey, and then two variations of brown and white. I was hoping for grey and white, like mine. I also took a look at the boxer option to see if maybe there was a coloring option closer to my dog, and there kind of was, but the expression was totally different — sort of puppy dog expression instead of the smiling pit bull face I wanted! Looking around at the other breed options, it just seems a little unfair that some are smiling and happy while others are indifferent, sad, or even angry. Emoji are meant to express a range of emotions! And for some of the other breeds, there are even less coloring options (bulldogs only have 2, labs only have 2). Overall, I think this app falls short of what most might expect from it. Easy to use, great artwork, but very limited and not quite balanced options.

I saw this app advertised on IG and had hoped I could make a cute emoji of my pup but unfortunately not, the app is barren of any controls or any real features like building your own pup. My dog is a mix breed Chihuahua/Minpin/Japanese Chin so there is no option for me with this app, thank god I've only lost $0.99+tax. One big suggestion for the developers is to create a “Build Your Own Pup” option much like Bitmoji gives us an option to adjust our facial features, shape and build but the equivalent for animals and also giving a few special options like one ear down, missing an eye or cleft palate etc. If these adjustments are made I could see much better success coming from your app and a better rating from me and possibly many others.

Update: This issue is still not fixed in the latest update, and no new colors for either Lab type. For some reason this app lists Labrador Retrievers twice: it has both the category “Lab” and the category “Labrador Retriever”, even though Lab is just a nickname for Labrador Retrievers and they are the same breed. The icons for “Lab” are super cute, but do not have Black labs (like I have) or chocolate Labs. Meanwhile the “Labrador Retriever entry has all 3 colors, but is much more ugly, especially the black one, which at normal phone brightness look like a black silhouette with a unrealistically bright, monocolor red tongue. If the two Lab entries were combined, and the cute style (currently listed under “Lab”) added the black and chocolate lab colors, then it would be much better. This app also need to remember the color when changing the eye style, it is annoying when you have a specific color of dog, but want to see how it looks with different eye styles, and need to keep manually changing the color back. This problem has also not been fixed in the update. Also what’s up with your other PetMoji app saying that it “is free, and will stay free for life” while it costs $2?! Very deceptive practice to advertise an app as free as you charge money upfront for it!
