Reviews: What People Think About Praying the Angelus

Rating: 5/5
I just came home a year ago Easter. I’m sorry to say that I was being a robot; going to Mass, confession, communion, praying. I was doing everything right but I wasn’t feeling right. All of a sudden, just before this past Lent, things started happening to me. I really started praying. I was dying inside because I realized what Jesus and Mary actually went through. When I prayed I couldn’t stop crying. By Holy Thursday I was a complete basket case. By Holy Saturday it was like the build up to Holy Thursday and Good Friday never existed. I was fine except for one tiny thing. I got on my phone and started searching, not knowing why, and I started finding people, places, books, things that I never knew existed and never had a desire to know about... this app being one of those things. It’s such a glorious feeling finally being home and learning about the faith that I was born into. Thank you Magnificat.

This is a very straightforward app with several options to fit the individual. It guides you through the prayer (in the language of your choice- check the settings to change- or in Latin) with optional church bells. It also has three optional reminders to pray. To set the alarms, click on the setting icon in the bottom left corner on the opening screen. You can turn the alarms off or edit the times with the pencil. I thought it was obvious, but I wanted to clarify since an earlier review said they couldn't find how to change the times from the defaults.

Wonderful to be alerted to the daily noon Angelus. I stop, and stare at the picture of a farmer and wife pausing in their field to pray at noon. A wonderful Catholic tradition. The noon chimes work to slow me down enough to reflect on my heredity- as a Catholic child, Catholic woman, Catholic wife, and Catholic grandmother. All of which have been a Blessing from God.

About Praying the Angelus
Welcome to the Magnificat Angelus App!
In some places, the church bells still ring daily in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. The Angelus is a very ancient prayer commemorating the Angel’s message (Angelus) to Mary, announcing to her that she will give birth to Jesus.
This prayer is first and foremost a commemoration of the mystery of the Incarnation: God made man to save us all. By reciting it with a faithful heart, it allows you to unite your everyday life, its joys and sorrows, to God who became one of us. Taking precedence over any daily activity at a specific time, it reminds us “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God” (Mt 4:4), and even more so from the Incarnate Word, our Lord Jesus Christ!
In order to help you establish the habit of praying the Angelus daily, you will be given the opportunity to set up reminders at the hours most convenient for your schedule (by default at 8am, 12pm, and 8pm).
You will also be able to watch weekly videos of the Angelus recited by the Pope along with the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
Your Angelus app is available in Latin and in every language of the MAGNIFICAT editions: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese and Slovenian.
Note: The Regina Coeli is said during the Easter season (from Easter Sunday to the day prior to Pentecost). The Angelus is said during the rest of the year.
