Heathrow Express

I came from an overnight flight from the US. While I had the app on my phone before I left, there was a Heathrow Express agent at the end of the corridor when I got off the flight and she answered a few questions for me and even saved me some money by having me get a round trip ticket. Then, I was off for my adventure! Thank you for it being so straightforward!!

Could actually be the worst commercial app if all time. If you purchase you have to then login to view the tickets you just purchased. Not straightforward if you’re on the go and don’t remember your Heathrow Express password off the top of your head! You can download them from your email but downloading just stores them in some random place on your phone that’s not immediately retrievable. You can get them added to your wallet if you know the secret that it’s the white text word to click on rather than the download banner itself. And then in the wallet you need to know to look for the National rail logo rather than a Heathrow Express logo. Incompetently delivered app. And then the staff at Paddington are completely unhelpful. Staggering. You guys should be ashamed but you probably just don’t care.

High praise for this app, Apple Pay, Heathrow Express and the London Underground. This is seamless travel. Got the app just before leaving America. Feb 2022. Decided to ignore reviews about earlier versions not validating payment. Payment went through. Round-trip ticket automatically added to my iPhone wallet. 8-hour layover in London. And so began my most epic journey. 15 minutes both ways to/from Paddington station. Train runs on schedule and frequently. Zero problems finding the train, using my ticket, or navigating tunnels. There are friendly workers standing around in every metro, and they just answer your questions. Bonus feature of Apple Pay and the metro: you literally put your phone up to the scanning mechanism at every metro terminal, and you never have to think about subway ticket purchases. I walked 27,000 steps, covering most of London proper, using maps and Rick Steves app for free walking tours, and I made my connecting flight, leaving 2 hours to get back through security. Book Heathrow Express tickets ahead of time. They are triple the cost in the terminal. Developers: leave a more complete blurb about ticket choices, defining “round trip open” “versus round-trip.” This is vaguely presented.
