This worked fine for a week until we adjusted the settings. Then every time the brakes were tapped I’m the truck, 100% of the trailer brakes come on causing the trailer to drag behind the truck. We tried using different phones to run the thing. Nope. Nothing worked. Got up above about 8 MPH, and tap the brakes and it’s like towing a 3600 pound brick. Called Curt, nice helpful rep sent a new controller out two day air to our campground. He thought the accelerometer was busted in the first one. So we started again with the new one. Installed a fresh version of the app (deleted old app and BT connections) and followed all the suggestions on methods of hooking up given by Curt (first, uninstall everything, download the app, turn the app on, plug in the brake controller to the tow vehicle, then follow the Bluetooth connection prompts. Next, connect the trailer to the Curt controller which is still plugged into the seven pin adapter on the truck.) Rolled off and tapped the breaks and screeched to a halt. It’s a brand new truck and brand new trailer. Works fine without brake controller. Doesn’t work with it. Super frustrating because now we are driving without a brake controller (living and working on the road in our RV and current campground had no more availability.) Trying to solve this problem but keep losing hours and hours to troubleshooting and tech support and to the thing malfunctioning. Really bummed their product seems to do this to many people! C’mon Curt! Fix it! Roll back to the last functioning version of your software. Whatever you need to do to help me be safe.
Absolute garbage. Would give it negative stars if able. Worked for a couple trips, updated app, now it always keeps the brakes on rendering it completely useless and dangerous. Now I’m stuck with my camper being unable to move because it keeps the brakes locked on for no reason. Worthless product for the money we spent. Do not buy this, get the old school brake controller wired to your truck. UPDATE: Just got off the phone with their “customer service” rep, who actually informed he works in the garages and isn’t actually customer service. Worst experience I’ve had talking to someone. I explained the situation that the brakes only get stuck on using this garbage controller, it’s getting electricity fine, etc. He said I had to buy a test light to troubleshoot, wouldn’t explain how that would actually help and instead of honoring the warranty, eventually said he’d do a one time warranty to send a new one but then I was on my own even if it didn’t work. Unreal, do yourself a favor and don’t buy this part.
From plugging the device in and connecting to Bluetooth on my phone, it took all of 30 seconds. The device works flawlessly for me without any connectivity issues like others have reported here. While I also think an Apple Car Play App would be awesome, I generally have my navigation on my cars screen and the Echo app on my phone so I’m not knocking a star off for this because it’s my preferred setup. I’m very pleased with how well the device and app work together and am confused by the bad reviews. Perhaps the bad reviews are from defective units? We all know that those that have a gripe are much more likely to write a review than those that are pleased with a product. Consider me an exception, I’m very happy with my purchase.
