Downhill Smash

First off the game is really fun, from the bonus coin banners to the grind in order to progress makes this game easy to pick up whenever I'm bored and leaves me satisfied with progress once I stop. The main point Id want to stress though would be the tasteful way that the app carries out doing Ads. So many mobile games bombard you with ads to a point where it isn't even fun, the fact that I'm never hit with an ad when I make progress while playing (i.e. The checkered checkpoint banners in lack of a better word) The reward system for choosing to watch ads also incentives you to tap on the ad when you're about to beat your best. Ads are rarely if ever do non-optional ads pop up while playing. This is my first time writing an actual review but I felt that this game is worth it.

This game is awesome once you master the concept and upgrade your boulder. However, in one level, Cold Fields specifically, there are two instances where items that are normally destructible become invulnerable to damage. They simply roll around in your way and it’s nearly impossible to get through them. I played this level over and over to make sure I wasn’t trying to destroy things that can’t be destroyed, but after screen recording, I realized it was a glitch. You can get through these two spots if you’re lucky enough for the items to maneuver in the right way, but this is unlikely, as the avalanche moves quickly at these points. There is also another glitch where you watch an ad for gems and spend them for a revive, but it doesn’t work. The game takes them and you get stuck on the option to watch an ad. Hopefully these glitches get fixed soon. UPDATE: The only way I got through the areas mentioned above is with the Phase Engine (let’s you pass through objects). I still believe this is a glitch though that needs correcting.

It’s a really well made game, a lot of effort was put into it, and getting better at the game is really fun. Playing it isn’t a bad idea. But, once you reach the end, all progression stops, and you’re basically done with the game, unless they eventually add more levels. The level design has its quirks, especially the endless mode, but it should be mostly alright. To the devs, though, you guys really didn’t take well into account how problematic some of the level sets are when you really try to beef up your engine and mass level, there are quite a few bits where you have to know exactly where to purposefully slow yourself down or go into a specific bit or stop moving, or you end up smashing into the ceiling, or ramping up a loop you’re intended to go Down through, or hitting a wall so hard you’re unable to recover, and your run is instantly ended. On the other hand, there really is so little diverse content in this game that once you get to a certain point it plays more like Dune or whatever game came before it than an explosion-destruction whatever game.
