Cryptomator: Protect Privacy

Because I’m just traveling with my iPad/iPhone, I was able to use the app for 30d in trial mode. The app is free except for the Apple devices where you won’t be able to write without the license. During the trial I kept a duplicate of all files in my Files storage just to make sure I did not lose anything. I was able to save/write to storage, edit files stored in storage, etc. So after the trial ended, I decided to get the lifetime license because I like to keep things that are good. I like to be able to keep my files in the cloud to be free from “sneaky” eyes. And I use GDrive and OneDrive. And everything looks fine. But yesterday, I renamed a folder on my iPad and quickly changed to another folder without waiting for the name change to complete. And now it just says “Unavailable, something happened, an error…” I shut down my device, restarted it and still nothing. And I said to myself “is this what happened to others as I’ve read in some of the reviews?” No. I did not believe so. My virtual copies are still working on my iPhone, which means that I only corrupted the copies on my iPad. So removed the virtual copy from my iPad and added it back again. And Voila! Everything was there. So I believe I made a good choice is believing in this app. It’s a great app and please keep it great. Thank you.

I’d give it five stars, except for a recent problem. I’ve been using Cryptomator with a Dropbox share on an iPhone XS for several years. It has always worked well. A few days ago I replaced that phone with a 15 Pro and now whenever I attempt to open the Cryptomator folder I am told “Error unable to perform unauthorized operation”. This message doesn’t give me much to work with. I’ve tried to modify my Dropbox settings to resolve this error, but haven’t had any success.

I wanted to like this app and support what they are doing, but I don’t know if I can trust it to keep my backup of my files. I get error messages saying I can’t change my password when trying to change my vault password in iCloud. Also when trying to create a folder within a vault it gives two errors saying “You can't use a name that ends with a space. Please choose another name.” And duplicates items already in the vault into an new untitled folder which is very strange. So far it has not convinced me of being a reliable encryption app for my iPhone. I have paid for the full version also. I just copied documents to a vault in iCloud and wanted to move it to another vault in iCloud and now it gives me an error message “The file doesn't exist. The file “example" couldn't be copied because it either doesn't exist or the folder it is being copied to doesn't exist. Then I go look at the folder I just copied and no files are in there with the message “Content Unavailable The folder contents could not be displayed because of an unknown error. Try Again” so where are my files!? What’s the use of encryption if you cannot trust it to backup files correctly in the first place. Any feedback on how to change my iCloud vault password I’m still getting the error even after restarting my phone: Error Operation cannot be performed because other background operations for this vault have to finish first. Please try again later.
