Contexto - Word Guess

i don’t recommend this game to anyone who is unable to put up with lots of advertisements. i gave it three stars because i like the concept of this game in general. i love “smart people games” like like wordle and similar but even though this game seems ok at first, as you play you realize it kinda stinks. And that’s not because of the content (concept is good)— nope, just like 90% of smart phone games it has about twenty million ads per second (ok… maybe that’s an exaggeration. but it’s a LOT). games like this should NOT have this many ads. it’s so annoying because i do a puzzle, then have to watch ads. exit the game— yup, more ads. it’s ridiculous— it’s like an ad every minute or two, depending on puzzle difficulty. i guess if you can put up with ads the game is ok in general. but overall, WAY to many ads. i would not recommend.

When I saw just a couple of dollars for a one time buy-in to remove ads, that was a no brainer. The way the game functions afterwards though needs to be reworked and updated. Not only does the game give you a level finished reward (say 100 credits) but it will pop up the option every time to watch an ad for double the credits. HOWEVER!!! If you paid to have mandatory ads removed, the game is rended incapable of loading ANY ads (requested or not) and thus makes it so that you cannot get that double the credit option whatsoever. It also affects the capability to check off any square of the free daily items. Something needs to be done to address this.

I like the idea of this game but it has a few aspects that could be improved to make it an overall better experience. One small one could be to show the relevant point value of a word you’ve already guessed when you type it in again. I appreciate the notification that I’ve already guessed that word, but if I’ve guessed 200+ words I’ve probably forgotten how relevant that individual word is, and could do with a reminder. A much more difficult to add improvement would be to consolidate synonyms. I’ve noticed there are a lot of words that mean the exact same thing, but have very different point values. “App” and “application” for instance, on one puzzle “application” was green and had a point value of less than 100, while “app” had a point value in the 4000’s. They mean the same thing. I know this gets tricky when it comes to homonyms, but I think that can be navigated by having separate entries for the different meanings of common homonyms, like “app (appetizer)” and “app (application)”. Going that route would allow players to clarify which meaning they intended whenever they type a homonym, so if they type “app” they could get a popup asking which of the different meanings they want to submit. Or, they could just immediately receive the point values for each of the meanings. Again, it would be a tedious improvement to implement, but it would be extremely useful and would help the game feel less arbitrary
