BoldVoice: Accent Training

I have been using BoldVoice for 10 months now. I also subscribe to ELSA Speak and have tried other apps on trial basis. I use and like BoldVoice the most because it is the most sensitive in detecting mispronunciations. It also provides the most relevant and helpful solution to correct the mispronunciation. However, BoldVoice’s AI can be quite frustrating at times, especially after you’ve mispronounced a word. It has a tendency to keep saying that you are mispronouncing the same word even though you have made the correction. BoldVoice allows you unlimited use so you can train more when you’re free. ELSA Speak allows limited training per day so you have to come back the next day once you have completed your daily training. ELSA Speak’s coach sounds robotic so it feels less natural but it’s AI conversation and feedback is very good. All these apps have their pros and cons so do your research and try different apps to find the right ones for you. They usually offer a free trial period. I am 55 years old. I am not trying to completely remove my Malaysian accent. I just want to sound clearer to Americans and BoldVoice fits the bill nicely.

This app is nothing but amazing! As a native Spanish speaker who started learning English in elementary school but has been living in the U.S. for close to 20 years, my weak area has never been grammar or spelling, but pronunciation. ESL classes were not the right fit. I’ve always had an interest in taking speech therapy; however, did not find the time or resources to do so in a convenient way. This app changed that. Not only is it intuitive, accurate, and responsive, but also it is very convenient to use. I can take my lessons whenever works best for me and continue practicing for however long I want. And to be honest, I am more comfortable working on my speech issues with an AI. More importantly, the method in which the lessons are taught is perfect. Areas for improvement are identified from the get-go and an individualized plan is generated. The app showed me weak areas that were known to me and also others which I didn’t know, and allowed me to start working on them immediately. Feedback is clear and concise. I saw improvement after the first lesson and have consistently made progress since. 100% worth it!
