Overall, I like both the app and desktop versions. They should work to improve the quality of the offline maps. More frustrating is that they still are trying to sell their Research Data add-on product despite them knowing that it is unmaintained and way outdated. For example, it is March 2022, and they still only have hunting data (harvest rates, etc.) up through the 2019 season. Also, their season date info is still only from 2020. I purchased this last year and was a complete waste of $10 since the data was old, and when I asked them about it, I got the canned “we’re sorry” response. How about not selling a service that you cannot support? They stated that they only download from Eastman’s data once per year. Ok…so why not download when you know they’ll have more data. But even that is not true because they are still 2 years behind! And yes this is the case for ALL states and regions…I checked. Instead of selling an unusable product just to have it listed as a feature of their app vs competitors, they should make sure that it provides value first.
This is a great tool for any hunter. I got the free version to learn the property and shooting house/green patch locations at the in-laws hunting camp. They have been leasing land since the early 70’s in our state and take for granted that a new comer doesn’t know or see everything the exact same as they might for the first time when giving directions sometimes. I have lost valuable hunting time (up to 1&1/2 hours) or time heading back in to the camp at/after dark getting lost ridding around on a SxS or in my 4x4 Truck making wrong turns using popular mapping apps that I dropped pins on locations. It’s not the same as the free version of this app, trust me. Hunting season is closing (deer season in our state) and I am about to pull the trigger on the affordable yearly price which seems to be over all cheaper than the others in this market. This app is very user friendly. It may or may not be missing a few things that might show in the pay version but the free version will make you fall in love with it. Oh, ads, there is none. How do they support a free version without ads? This is the ingenious part I really like because I hate ads and unsolicited things. They have incorporated a game thing into the app that you can choose to play or not daily. It’s a simple game about picking/guessing a landing location for “sponsors gear” in certain locations like a mountain in Yellowstone Park or some other locations in other national parks or similar places. It’s like winning a lottery. I have tried it a few times. The daily reminder comes up when the app starts, you “X” it out if you don’t want to participate and it’s that simple. That’s both a plus and selling point on the paid version for me. YOU CAN’T GO WRONG OR GET LOST TRYING THE FREE VERSION. THE ALABAMA HAMMER, I GET THE BIG BUCKS AND I GET THEM WHEN I GO HUNTING NOW USING BASEMAP!!!
I’ve had BaseMap for about a month. I started with the free version, then upgraded to Pro. Being able to look up a property line or who owns a property is something I use on a weekly basis. I used it today for a friend to determine who owned a neighboring property so he could ask permission to track a deer. Topo maps are great to scout without the groundwork (although I love the groundwork!). I can mark locations to keep track of where my trail cams are set or I can mark summer weed beds for winter ice fishing. I can also access water depths for lakes, which will also help me find drop offs for fishing. The load time for parcel ownership and boundary lines is much quicker than other apps I’ve used. I measured a 64 yard shooting distance across a pond, which was accurate when double checked with a range finder. I’ve used other mapping apps, and I’ve got to say I’m impressed with the features BaseMap has to offer. I still have a lot to learn within the app, but so far I am impressed and highly recommend it!
