As an Elementary School SLP, I work I’m descriptive vocabulary with a lot of my students. This important language skill is often deficient in my students with disorders, causing difficulty with their academics, in particular with writing. Apps to work on this area are hard to find, so I was very excited when I found this app from a company whose other apps I love and use often. I own or have used most of SmartyEars apps. I was hoping for an app that thoroughly worked on the receptive language component of this skill. I have come to trust Smarty Ears apps as being robust, versatile, and functional. Sadly, this app was not up to their usual standards. Although it works well for my more language impaired students who are just learning adjectives, it doesn’t expand in scope to meet anything beyond their introductory level needs. The app only allows the user to choose from 2 options at a time, and recycles a fairly limited, and not entirely high use or functional vocabulary of adjectives. If you are looking for a good starter app, this one may work for you. But for anything beyond the basics, I recommend finding a different app to work on demonstrating comprehension of adjectives.
Wish it had more adjectives choices and different level options. Overall, it’s a good app to get an idea of a students baseline and target selection.
The words used in this app are not based on frequently used words (e.g., ancient). The biggest flaw though is that you can not sync all into Therapy Report Center. Each student has to be individually synced which wastes a lot of unnecessary time. In the app’s current state, I would not recommend purchasing it.
