Worldpacker’s incentives are sustainability, personal growth, cultural immersion, and opportunity for smaller budgets. Unfortunately the 1 stars match my experience and that means they’re lacking the adaptability and prioritizing a certain demographic. Scheduling a host is difficult with planning because you choose “preferred dates and flexible dates” the moment you request. Hosts either send you the literal dates you submitted or swing you over to WhatsApp for a wishywashy interview. While some hosts are great communicators, others are not which can make picking expensive flights both a nightmare and risky. This is were a specific demographic comes in: if you use Worldpackers it is best if you have lots of flexibility, have plenty of fallback money, or have a safety net. For the people that are on a tight budget, Worldpackers hosts can make or break you. Some are very nice, but others don’t consider the costs to travel. Hosts also might suggest jobs on WhatsApp that aren’t a fair exchange for the stay. It is a good idea to speak with your host through a call first because you might get more details about the experience not disclosed on the app. I think most hosts are likely very good people, but if you run into all the problems to find one then you could end up lost a lot of money. The problem I have with Worldpackers is that they can adjust the app to help risk management, and since there are many 1stars bringing this up, it appears negligent.
I had heard about work exchanges for a long time but last Friday I decided on a whim that I needed to finally travel while I still have the time. I applied to 8 and heard back from 5 in the same day and was approved for all 5 that got back to me. I am now confirmed for two exchanges in Vietnam and already booking flights. Both exchanges seem super safe and I’m communicating with the hosts right now as I book everything. This app makes everything so easy and it all happened too fast to overthink and back out as I usually do. 6 weeks in Vietnam is about to be wild. If you want to travel on a budget, you can. Let this be a sign.
So, I recently found out that you can become and expert workdpacker and they had programs you could sign up for etc. So I'm logged in and go to check out the programs and it tells me to "log in to apply" I already am logged in? Anyways, I click the button to log in and it takes me to the log in screen so I login through facebook and it takes me back to the home screen. So I go to click on my profile page where it has the "Become and expert" button and it logs me out of my account. So naturally I log back in and it's just a never ending cycle. It says I'm logged in but when I go to check out the expert programs it says I'm not when I AM. It even logs me out when I go to click on my profile. I would like to become and expert but the app keeps saying I'm not logged in and I haven't logged in when I am c l e a r l y on my account. Fix it, please, it's very frustrating.
