Windfinder Pro: Wind & Weather

Have increasingly overtime used this app for ALL my weather related needs now. I’m retired and live on the Fla panhandle coast and do tons of outdoor/offshore activities through a narrow, very shallow inlet. Having timely confidence in my wind and wave direction, size and speed means EVERYTHING for me as I’m able to have magnificent experiences time and again using Windfinder Plus. I’ve come to rely on it for all my weather needs regardless of where I am. This is not a light endorsement as this app has earned its way to prime real estate on my Homepage over the last few years. Big fan!

I am a Chater fishing captain and use a variety of apps to keep my clients safe on our fishing trips. I use Windfinder for the prediction of wind and waves. With wind, they are good. With waves, they are consistently bad. I routinely add 1-2’ to their predictions in the 2-5’ range. Sometimes, they are WAY off, which costs me money and reputation. When Windfinder tells me the wind is 15-18 and waves 2’, I KNOW they are WAY OFF. The waves will 3-5’, especially if it’s been blowing for a couple of days. This is bourne out on the report page. So, be careful with the wave predictions.

We use this App most frequently when at the shore. Nothing seems more difficult to predict accurately than the wind. This year we also had 4 days on a boat over a 3 week period. They were calm (less than 10mph) as predicted amidst windy days on either side. We have always been impressed with this App but this year 100% was unbelievable. Some of the predictions were a week out. Obviously 100% is not always going to happen. Most years it is 70-80% accurate at Nags Head for us. The mix of water (Gulf and Labrador currents), land, and Fall you have a difficult forecast!
