VLC Remote Pro!

Purchased this app to play *.flac files and to use as a standin for the iPhone remote app from apple. When this app works, it is nice. I don’t think this app is ready for prime time. I used the free app for one day and figured I’d upgrade to be able to browse and add files. When I add files from the app, the playlist function fails and reverts back to the first song in the media player’s library (as listed). Essentially you cannot choose to start somewhere in the song listing and listen sequentially: the player automatically reverts to first song. Also, the volume function works only when not editing a playlist/song list. Once you load new songs and try to play those, volume control is lost. People say this app is better than Apple’s Remote (which has its quirks) but this makes VLC Remote not worth the $5 upgrade. Stay on the free version because it actually works as advertised. Very disappointed.

I've used other remote apps for other programs but this is by far the most well thought out remote app I have come across. It's always possible to think of some other feature that you might want an app to have but most every feature one can imagine has been included. Three of my favorites are that VLC is automatically paused when a phone call comes in, this one works every time for me. I like the ability to search connected drives for content and the ability to select subtitles from the app. I don't buy many apps but this one has been money well spent. I use it regularly. I prefer paying to not seeing the ads and it is a whale a Knouff executed app that I thought it was worth the price. I don't recall why, but about a year ago I had occasion to contact the developer and he was very responsive and helpful. If you use iTunes on your Mac and use the Remote app that Apple provides you are familiar with a poorly executed remote app. If you have content that you can play in VLC, rather than jumping through hoops figure out how to convince iTunes to play it, use VLC and this remote app and you'll be much happier, your blood pressure will be lower, you'll grow 2 inches taller, your hair will become thick and lustrous, you'll reach your ideal weight and win the lottery without even entering!

This app allows me to control my Mac OS VLC application without mouse or keyboard. It also has most essential features of the desktop application available for use on my iOS device. There are times, however, when the app "refuses" to see my computer, and it can take 10 minutes of fiddling before control of the VLC software on my computer is restored, which is annoying. Update: July 9, 2017: The "computer-sensing" problem indicated above appears gone, and I revise my rating to 5 stars.
