Ukulele Tuner & Lessons: Kala

Easily the best ukulele app out there. This won’t make you a pro overnight but if you aren’t playing let it be in 20 minutes… you will. It’s really that easy. The play along has gotten so much better and the library of music just keeps growing. I have kept my subscription for three years and counting. Just get the app and learn to play. One year later: This app is just getting better. The how to play sections are doing really cool things with strumming progressions and simple chord progressions, as well as advanced cord progressions. They have great teachers that breakdown plan very simply., and singing and playing really hard but if you give this app at least 10 to 15 minutes of your day every day or even every few days you’ll pick up how to play a ukulele pretty quickly

**2nd update** not sure if they’ve had licensing issues or what, but with the new version many of my absolute favorite songs to play are just gone. And they’ve added a handful of new, lesser-known songs. Now I wish I written down the chords (or memorized them, duh). What’s going on, guys? We depend on this app and pay a lot of money for it and it’s disappointing when these major changes eliminate important features or delete well-known and loved songs. **update** They’ve done a major update to the app and so far the songs are buggy (lyrics and/or chords not matching up with the music), my playlist is gone, AND, most importantly to me, there doesn’t seem to be a way to eliminate the melody when the song plays or a way to transpose up or down. The primary reason I use this app is to sing with it, and I hate hearing a cheesy melody in the background, and some of the songs don’t work in my vocal range so I need to transpose them. Hugely disappointing. Pros: huge song list, easy cords, ability to take out the melody or percussion when playing, slow down the tempo, easily pause the song, a few ways to tune, ability to transpose up or down Cons: I found the strumming tutorials to be lacking. Consequently, strumming is my weakest skill. Limited chords - only the most basic. This ends up making some songs sound off. Please add some 7 and minor chords! They irregularly update the song list so it will be months and months without any new material. Give us the hits! There are a ton of typos in the lyrics. The price is quite high. Every time you go between the app and another app, it displays the logo when you return. If you sing, oftentimes the performance rating at the end is inaccurate. Also - the app inspires laziness. I haven’t memorized one song, despite playing for a year. Recommend adding an exercise to play without chords displayed

My friends gave me a $300 USD ukelele for Christmas, and up until now I have never gotten down to learn and play it. I was just browsing around for ukelele apps and found this. I was kind of glad that I found this app, because my ukelele is the same brand, Kala. I opened it and found many songs to play along to, although some were part of the “full access“ package. Since I didnt know ANY chords or notes, I watched the videos teaching the fingering on different chords, and once I knew enough, I played all these different songs, and already on the first day I could play the song Lavenders Blue. I found myself playing on Kala for three straight hours. Yes, I am not exaggerating!!! THREE HOURS STRAIGHT!! I already knew I had to buy the full access, and I am still so happy I found it. I have improved soo much using this app, so thank you to whoever started this app! There are many other reveiews for this app, and most say its bad and give it 1 star. I strongly disagree because it gave me a head start on ukelele and aftr 3 weeks Im still using it, and I am not planning on quitting. There are no problems for this app, nothing to improve! Its amazing 💯
