I had some one give me a older GE window unit used it for years no instructions just noticed a WiFi button and download a app and after set up It was connected to Alexa no issues at all. told Alexa turn on and off so after it stopped working I decided to get a new one in Home Depot and have seen Toshiba AC units sold I was excited to pick this brand because I grew up with Panasonic and Zenith which are older brands but Toshiba was a top name back in the day so when I seen the label that it was Alexa and google enabled I had no doubt I would work flawlessly but unit works fine but the app is absolutely ridiculous has not been updated and canโt connect to any platform Iโm so disappointed that this happens to customers I truly thought a Toshiba AC unit thinking it would be superior in technology but of course they took the last glimmer of a brand name to trick you that I would connect to modern day WiFi systems and work as advertised on the box mind you and all we get is lies and unusable and outdated apps I should have bought a Walmart brand I promise you that it would work better then this lie in a box Toshiba was a great Japanese brand Hitachi and Toyota all great products but this is disappointing to see that they sell products based on a good name and customers get lied to so please take your tanto blade out and end your product line no excuse why you do this to customers you know how many people buy them and install them but are not going to return it all because you picked TOSHIBA I guess I should have read reviews first what a shame
These Toshiba units appear to only connect if you are specifically using 2.4 GHZ signal and WPA2. Not WPA2/WPA3 mixed. I would assume to save cost they put very simple components in these appliances that will refuse to connect unless the WiFi they are getting meets the criteria I have already listed. You need a 2.4 GHZ signal and it must be WPA2. I spent about an hour trouble shooting before I found a trouble shooting question in the app that said that WPA2 was needed for compatibility. You most likely WILL need to play around with your router settings to get your unit to connect to the internet. As far as I can tell the app functionally works fine. I can control all features of my AC unit when Iโm connected to the local WiFi network and if Iโm on cellular data. One bug I did find is that the app will provide you with local weather conditions, but they appear to only be in Celsius, and there appears to be no way to change it. My guess is that this is linked to your region (mine is set to the U.S.), and it wonโt show up in Fahrenheit. Not a really problem but kinda egg on face from a software development standpoint. It gets four stars because it pretty much does everything as advertised however setup was a bit time consuming and silly. They really should stress the WiFi requirements. It will not work without those specific requirements.
UPDATE: during the set up to WiFi process, it tells you to hold the connect button for 3 seconds. Then it shows AP blinking and in the app you see that it connects to phone and connects to WiFi/ to the app, but the last loading step, I think itโs connecting the app to the WiFi or something it loads to 100% and then says could not configure and to try again, and during all of that, the AP turns off. Basically when it loads the 3 step things hold down the connect button until itโs over. It wonโt seem like itโs doing anything but it helped and worked for me! It seems like the issue is that during the last loading step, it cannot finish connect because the connect to WiFi/AP blinking turns off therefore the connection gets disrupted Old review: Connects to phone and WiFi but in the end fails to connect set up. I canโt even add the AC to the app to use. So annoying.
