I never review apps, but Steppin is one of those rare ideas that immediately made sense in my actual life. I seriously need to walk more, spend less time doomscrolling and do a better job protecting my sleep and mental health. This app connects all of those things in a way that feels simple, practical and surprisingly motivating: walk first, unlock later. It doesn’t shame or overcomplicate anything. It just creates a healthy bit of friction between you and the apps that are too easy to open without thinking. For me that has led to more time outside and fewer wasted minutes on toxic social media.
So I really like this app because it’s forced me to walk more and be more actively engaged as opposed to sitting on my phone looking at social media however, I have noticed that when I’m trying to use 10 minutes or five minutes, the timer is not actually counting the 10 or the five minutes and it’s actually only giving me three. So I already have to walk 8 billion years to get a few hours of social media in general, but then the timer is an actively counting the time properly. So 10 minutes is really three minutes on the app and it happened multiple times because I was confused and I checked so I said my 10 minutes at 12:31 and at 12:34 my timer was up. I thought I was over using my social media time but really I’m barely using any time in the app is saying I’m using a whole bunch. Please fix it.
the first few months i used this it helped me so much. my screentime was down an insane amount and i actually prioritized exercising. recently in the past few months it hasn’t been blocking the apps. i thought it was a glitch and let it be thinking it would fix itself but it doesn’t ever block the app again unless i go back and physically click on Steppin. i requested to use a minute and the minute passed, it locked the app as usual and i left the app. then it immediately unlocks. it’s super helpful when it works keeping me accountable but it’s annoying going back to steppin to make sure it actually locks every time. i wanted it to keep me accountable not me have to keep the app keeping me accountable 😭 but other than that i love the app and highly recommend
