Shortform Daily Book Summaries

I have been a subscriber to Shortform along with another book summary app (for years). Shortform has taken book summaries to a new level and I am so thrilled to renew with them for another year. Which brings me to the review. There was a renewal issue with their UI, which showed the original “discounted” subscription price for the renewal. Long and short, they not only acknowledged the UI issue, which they are now correcting, but are refunding the price difference, which they didn’t have to do, as their service is that good…but they did! Thank you Shortform for not only a delightful product, delightful support team, but for doing the right thing when you didn’t have to…and no, the customer is NOT always right…as a long time business owner myself, but Shortform did the thoughtful thing. Well done.

I cannot say enough great things about this app!!! The summaries and the way they tie the summaries in with other authors on similar subjects - or on subjects that compliment the one you’re currently reading - soooo incredible! I use this app to help me coach my clients on mindset and self-development tools…the fact that I can simultaneously receive information from other authors on a topic is just incredible. Saves me so much time in reading countless books too :) I love to read, but I would never have the time to read enough to gain the same valuable information I gain in just one book summary from this app. Zero glitches, customer service is incredible, books load up quickly…I am thoroughly impressed!!!!!

This app needs a major overhaul. It’s hurting their business. It’s buggy, crashes, and features just stop working. Ex: I clicked the “skip ahead” button while listening to audio and the screen turned from light mode to dark mode while the audio was unchanged. Sometimes the audio stops after you lock your screen, sometimes it doesn’t. As far as the design, the default screen has a search box but it only searches content you’ve already put in your library. It should search for new books/articles by default. That’s what people are most likely to look for. The audio playback is a mess. I can’t scrub the timeline. The skip back/ahead buttons don’t tell me by how much or let me adjust the time interval. I can’t view a list of chapters and move between them from the audio controls. I have to back out of them. Clicking the next chapter/previous chapter buttons yield unpredictable results. The app needs a lot of work.
