I used this app frequently last year. The upgrade is really a downgrade. It no longer gives you the choice to see what’s happening in the last two days, I find myself needing to log out of the app to get back to an original screen, and I’m not sure why you need a sensitivity block. The app is always upgrading too, which tells me there must be a lot of bugs. It would be helpful to know how the “upgrade” is helping shark research more than version one did.
I’ve been using Sharktivity for a couple years now. Before it was updated this past year, the app opened to a map showing pings by sharks in the period of time it was set to (I usually have mine set to show pings in the last week). Now it opens to my location and I have to move the map to the area I want to view. The only exception is when I click on a notification of a shark alert from the home screen of my phone and then it only shows the current ping and not all activity for the past week. I understand that the previous app behavior and setup is very similar to that of Ocearch, but as a user, that’s exactly what I expect to see when I open the app cold and not from a notification. During the year I regularly check for shark activity so I am opening the app before receiving a notification almost daily. Please consider returning to the former interface that shows all shark activity by default when the app is opened. (I already know where I am so you don’t need to show me that. 😉) Thank you for all your work with these beautiful creatures.
As someone who grew up summering on the Cape, I’ve witnessed the influx of sharks over the last several years. Being able to see shark sightings through this app is so cool! Love the work AWSC is doing in the community and appreciate that the data is publicly available for all of us ocean lovers. Clicking in to different sharks in the area to see their recent sightings and corresponding photos is one of my favorite, unexpected features. I know I’ll be opening this app a lot this summer!
