Why are some birds missing on my version. The Bulbuls, Boubous, and Loeries or Taracos for example. Also missing some photographs.
It would be nice if the app was all that was required when in the field. Unfortunately I find myself needing the bird book as well. The app is great if you know the general species of bird as you can look that up and then scroll through to see what you are actually looking at, however, if you don't know what you are looking at the bird book is a much better bet as you can find the page(s) that have all the similar birds together and compare a much wider selection of possibilities. The apps compare mode and smart search just don't compete. Smart search's characteristics are too hard and fast and eliminate birds too easily. If one is using this feature it's probably because you have no idea what bird you are looking at so allowing for some human error in the describing of size and color etc would be a good idea. Would be nice if the list feature would have an option to select from locations previously entered instead of typing them in from scratch again. I think the my location may have a glitch, I was in southern Kruger park in December and had my location set to mpumalanga and the yellow billed kite would not come up as an option, I believe that's what I was looking at. All in all a fantastic app, I hope it continues to improve.
I have used Roberts PDA for windows mobile phones extensively. Sasol eBirds doesn't have the same amount of bird information. Sasol ebirds also do not have all of the bird calls or nesting information. I have had the application crash on me a few times and there is also no easy way of entering the information for the hundreds of birds that you have already seen. Setting the language to Afrikaans has some bugs and certain birds crash when you try to view them from your bird list. (Tapping on the bird name in the list ex: Bromvoel, breebek, breekoparend, swartaasvoel, also the last letter of each is not displayed.) I really enjoy having a bird application for my Iphone, but I hope that developers of sasol eBirds will sort out the small errors and make the application even better by adding more information, more pictures, more calls and better management of the personal bird list. Update: V1.1 This version is still broken. When I click on afrikaans names in "My List" the application crashes. There is no way for me to delete these birds from my list. Examples: Breebek, Breekoparend.
"In southern Africa the Sasol eBirds would undoubtedly be my first choice. The text is detailed, the navigation system is user friendly and the opport...
