(S30/E30/M30) iComfort T-Stat

Our Lennox system, from the bottom up, has been fantastic. The thermostat and this app has a major factor in this. We replaced the old on/off air handler, furnace, and A/C Compressor with a variable speed HVAC system (both the air handler and the compressor have variable speed). This thermostat lets us choose the fan mode and control the humidifier (wintertime) from the app. Also, the A/C compressor and air handler (fan) are used as a dehumidifier (slower speed operation) in the summer. The air is constantly filtered (circulating) in a slower speed to minimize temperature gradients between the lower and upper floors during winter and summer months. The thermostat and this app have been very reliable and allows us to control the home climate whether we are at home or away. This has been OUTSTANDING for us.

Coming over from Nest, my initial reaction is that the app has loads of functionality and is relatively smooth, but there are definitely some things that could be a lot better. The giant “loading” box every time you open the app is a bit much. A small “syncing” in the corner would suffice. It also doesn’t seem to tell me if the system is currently running. As silly as that sounds. That was a nice feature with Nest—open the app, and if the heat is running, the whole background is orange; if the AC is running, it’s all blue; and if neither is running at that moment, it’s gray. A simple fan on/off button would be great. The syncing with Google Home leaves a bit to be desired. And there really isn’t any functionality for the system within Google Home except to manually change the temperature. Can’t view or change anything else. Separately, not having the ability to place sensors in different areas of the house is a HUGE drawback. Being stuck with the temp at the thermostat just seems like an archaic problem at this point. Nest has small sensors you can easily set in different rooms and you can have the system reference those temps instead of the temp at the thermostat. For houses with big temp differences between the first and second floor, that was a lifesaver in the summer. I guess we’ll see how it goes this summer. Finally: “iComfort” is a good name. Just name the app that. I realize it seems like a trivial gripe, but it’s such an obvious branding issue. Having some long name that trails off into ellipses under the app icon makes it look like the name was an afterthought. There’s a reason every app from every major tech company fits into the space allotted under the icon on a phone’s homescreen.

I’ve had my Lennox system in my new home for 15 months. Only with the recent update has it started to work better but it’s still very intermittent. I have five thermostats. All are M30 thermostats. One was replaced last week. They are all on a named home. They intermittently show up on the app. It routinely says to check each thermostat because one or more is not connected to the Internet. I go to each one and they are all connected to the Internet and they’re all license to my account. At various times I get each one showing up on the app but never all of them at the same time. It is driving me nuts. Worse, is that the feels like does not work and I am routinely adjusting the thermostat temperature to get the heat to come on when it is cold inside and shows that it is 72 and I have a separate thermostat that register 66. I then turn the thermostat down to 65 to get the heat to come on and it immediately shows the correct temperature and then proceeds to overheat. I love the ideas on the app. They just don’t work. I’d love a straight forward thermostat that allows me to set the temperature and then actually adjust to it. I’ve tried taking the feels like setting off and leaving it in the off position. However, I still have the same issues. It’s like you cannot override the system to do just what you wanted to do. It tries to think too much for you and just messes things up. I just give me a thermostat that tracks the actual temperature within the bounds that I set and make the app merit. Shouldn’t be too hard.
