This game is a lot of fun and the devs have clearly put a lot of work into it. I paid for the base game a while ago so I have no idea what the free to play is like at this point. My only qualm is that the bathing for the bots on multi-player absolutely sucks. I've had players quit out of the game and then the bot that replaces them either freezes or locks onto a player and chases them around the map. Other than that it's a lot of fun!
Too many ads for a paid game. You're only allowed to play limited games based on tokens/coins you get. You can upgrade to premium to remove ads. However they also sell cosmetics & other things which makes that redundant. Just sell that. It's been proven to be an effective business model but this game harasses you from every which way. Imagine paying to play AND paying for cosmetics AND watching ads!! Do better. This is just Risk. This isn't a top tier game for you to be doing all that.
This game is great and I love Risk. I do like that there are two rotating free maps per week. I do wish there was an option to build your maps or game modes without real purchases. I'm never going to spend money on the app, and I'm not going to play every day for a year to save enough gems for one single purchase. So it's fine for a little while then I'll get bored and uninstall. Gem rewards should be directly related to play time or wins. That would incentivize you to play more.
Iโd rate it lower if possible, i played 6 straight games where i did not lose to poor strategy but because the dice roll odds are ridiculous. I lost a 17 more troops then they did when we both started with 30 and then the next turn I attack someone and lost all 13 troops on another territory when they were defending with 6. This has happened multiple times to players that pay for the risk premium account and only in critical points in the game. Every review Iโve seen just gets replied to with a โcheck out our dice oddsโ automated reply but itโs almost statistically impossible to lose 6 games in a row like that at critical points and never have one of them go my way. In addition to the dice odds, computer/AI needs to play like an actual person. There have been multiple times it just continues to attack me or attacks another person when it does not make sense. This has both helped and hurt me but it shouldnโt be a thing. I can leave a territory thatโs giving me a continent bonus with only 1 troop in it and they will refuse to attack me and itโs gone both ways. Lastly, they do not actually evaluate reports. Several times players will either blatantly cheat or stall (refusing to attack the last remaining territory just to draw out a game). Even when reporting this they send back a reply saying they didnโt do it. I have no clue how you can look at someone not attacking the sole territory for multiple turns and not call it stalling. Horribly run game.
I first downloaded this app back around 2015 or so, and it was exactly the game I was looking for. I enjoyed playing regularly enough, but when the first pack of new maps came out, it was game changing. I was especially fond of the USA and Europe maps. I had since downloaded several different series of maps, and purchased the game twice when my original Apple ID was lost. I was happy to do so for the quality of gameplay. Over the years I have gone for periods without playing, but I somehow always come back and keep going. I understand the need to keep cash rolling after all these years, but the game is started to turn into every other gems for items game. The purchasable emotes and figures are annoying having felt the purity of the game in its early days. I shouldnโt be surprised, and am always excited to see the new maps. I wish youโd go back to world maps and regional maps. I always enjoy real world scenarios more, personally. Also, with all the changes, I keep needing to login with my ID. Itโs really annoying, and has created at least 4 different characters over the past few months, as well as making an entire map package I purchased no longer available. I didnโt mind rebuying the game when I lost my Apple ID, but I lost one of my favorite maps in one of the character changes.
Game is well designed and rating would be five stars except for one fatal flaw! In online, when a player quits and the computer takes over, the computer needs to be more logical and sophisticated. I was just playing an online match and it was between three players. A computer controlled, a human opponent and myself. The human opponent had at one point, four continents under full control, I had one (Australia) and the computer had its troops spread over Asia with out control of the full continent. The computer proceeded to consistently attack territories in Asia and corner me in Australia by stacking surrounding territories with high troop counts, while my human opponent was absolutely running away with the game! To make matters worse, the human opponent left some continents with little protection and the computer still didnโt attack one single territory to reduce the bonus troops for the human opponent. Needless to say I lost the match. My issue is I didnโt lose because the human player out strategized me, but rather because the computer player was in la la land with its head up its a-s. Please make the computer in online much more sophisticated so that the games remain competitive and fair when some one quits mid game.
