I spend a good portion of my day navigating plans and documents on Procore in the field as a supt for a GC. I use every page of the drawings so I’d like to have ready access in a format that doesn’t require hunting or trial and error. The new left column menu is an inefficient nightmare. Would it be so hard to offer an opt-in toggle instead of drastically changing what the user is accustomed to? The previous tool bar across the bottom, and the icon to access the full menu when I wanted it was great. Now, every step requires accessing the full menu, then closing the menu that pops up at every screen change. The list of plans in the drawings menu column is utterly useless. The column is so narrow, many of the plan titles are abbreviated to appear the same, forcing me to open them 1 at a time until I find the one I want. Do not suggest bookmarks either. If I have to bookmark an entire set of plans, that’s a clear indicator that your redesign is dysfunctional. Just bring back the option to display by grid or list, showing enough of the page title to make an accurate selection. I’ve seen it stated in other review responses that this was a much requested format change. Nobody asked you to make the app less functional than it was. I was a big fan, you’re losing my attention quickly.
Love “In theory” things I love or access current plans and specs for the entire team. Love that you can create markups and have them published or private. That contacts in directory are available for everyone and that you can record information from phone calls directly into the daily log. Access to submittals, even if the submittal tool is horrible. Hate (in function) tools are not arranged. Alphabetically cannot be arranged. Alphabetically must be arranged manually. Submittals when multiple revisions are made, it is almost impossible to differentiate between what current and what was revised and resubmitted without having to search through all submittals. Daily log and manpower that you cannot add someone to the log without them being in the master directory so so if you have temporary contractor for one day, they don’t count into your manpower. Equipment log cannot assign equipment to contractor via drop-down menu. specifications cannot highlight important information directly in the app, trying to input a new section into specifications takes a rocket science degree, with the wind blowing north and south at the same time and holding your mouth at a 32° angle perpendicular to the equator. And the biggest thing I absolutely hate about this app is the constant downloading of same details, same photos over and over and over again every time the app opens so when you have no service, you have no drawings even though you’ve opened them dozens of times
I have used most of the construction software out there. I’ be taken the classes, read the recommended manuals and gotten a lot of sleep doing it. Construction by nature is far from boring, but construction software training....have you ever watched paint dry? ProCore is easy enough to use that if you have reasonable computer skills, know how to copy and paste, are comfortable with Excel, then you can use ProCore without requisite training. I’ve only found a couple of things that are hard to do. One is to upload a schedule into ProCore from Excel. I just tried to do this last week, only to discover that I need “ admin” priveledge to do so. The other is uploading photos from another source, like google photos. You. Can’t. You need to move your pix into your pictures then upload one by one to ProCore. If you try this on cellular wi-fi it’s going to fail 90% of the time. According to ProCore online help, that’s the nature of the beast. The rest of the software...pretty easy stuff.
