Nelnet

Been a Nelnet customer for 11 years or so. Believe it or not, the app is better than its ever been. For the majority of the time I’ve paid my loans through Nelnet, the app couldn’t even load half the time. It’s not Nelnet’s problem if their customers can’t pay specific loan groups or if their customers can’t pay their loan hassle free through their app. Nelnet will get paid eventually regardless. Think about how much you owe Nelnet and then consider how many borrowers they have. They have the resources to make a great app but how would that benefit them? You used to be able to pay your loan groups in the app and now you can’t. Weird how that is a feature that no longer exists. I’m surprised there isn’t a service charge for paying your loan through the app. Nelnet is a scummy company, but the only reason they are that way is because they are allowed to be. If your loan was recently switched to Nelnet, good luck. I have always watched them very closely. I don’t trust Nelnet’s autopay because I feel like a payment amount will change on one of my loans and Nelnet will notify me with the bare minimum effort possible and my credit will take a hit because of it. Do not trust Nelnet.

I couldn’t log into the new app. Had to call in and change my password. The service rep was pleasant and very helpful. As another reviewer stated, the ability to choose between which loan your payment gets applied to is no longer available. Disappointing, as it was nice during covid forbearance to be able to pay down the highest rate loans and even before covid to make extra principal payments on the loan with the highest interest. Can no longer view tax documents. When viewing payments, it no longer shows which loan(s) the payment was applied to. The payment feature seems easy to use if all you want is to make a payment on the whole group and not an individual loan. I doubt I’ll use the app much as it no longer meets my needs. You took a perfectly adequate app and turned it into useless garbage.

The old version you could pay for a specific loan within a group. Now you only have the option to pay the principal balance of the entire group of loans. Sadly, this feels like it is by design…..I’m sure Nelnet knows that everyone uses their phone to pay (usually via this mobile app), which in that case, the fact it disappeared from previous versions to this, I can’t imagine them all sitting in a room saying this is a good idea to get rid of paying specific loans in a group (that have higher interest rates) and just only allow them to pay the principal balance on the entire collective group of those loans. Either they are incompetent or think we must be extremely stupid. To all reading this, we must make this noticed outside of reviews in the App Store.
