My Row Counter, Knit & Crochet

I’ve only just started using My Row Counter, but I’m taking time to write this review because I already LOVE it! This app is one of the few that was thoughtfully developed to make life easier 🧶🖤 I’m currently working on a blanket that is comprised of twenty squares with completely different patterns that will eventually be sewn together. I originally found this app so that I could count total rows knitted, as well as repetitions within a pattern without having to use a notebook & my stitch clicker. (i.e. repeat rows 1-16 on Chart A x4 then continue on at row 72). It’s great for that. BUT, I found that the other features were even more valuable to me! Having my pattern right there & being able to jot down my notes & even draw on the pdf feels revolutionary. I’ll definitely be paying to upgrade when I start a second project. It’s well worth the $12!!!

I’ve enjoyed using your app, however, the current design and functionality isn’t quite what it needs to be when you’re working on a project that you set up multiple sections for. The individual sections, when you update the row count, should automatically update the global counter. As it is now, if you preset up individual sections with your row counts and only update the global counter, it skews the row counts in the individual sections, which doesn’t help you keep track of your row count accurately, so you end up have to update both the individual section counter first and then global counter. Kind of a pain. The other suggestion would be to allow users to add a stitch count requirement for the individual sections that would then feed the global counter. Right now, all you offer is the average number of stitches per row, which again skews the overall stitch count. I think if you updated the app in this manner, you’d have many more happy users because we not only want to track our row counts, but our stitch counts as well, especially when we’re working on larger, more complex patterns. I got this app solely for using the tow counter on my Apple Watch. I found it annoying that to even use that feature, I have to subscribe to the app. Fine, I’ll support a developer, no big deal I guess. But the Watch app is… Not great. The app only stays active on the watch for maybe a minute. Then it goes away and I have to push 3 different buttons every time I want to bring it back. This gets really annoying when I have to do it every 2-3 minutes after each row I’ve done. And I can’t make a shortcut to the row counter app with the Shortcuts app for whatever reason, otherwise I could add a shortcut to my watch face and just tap that when it times out. I do like that I can add my patterns and have counters attached to them. It makes it easy to remember where I left off on a project when I get project ADD. But viewing the pattern can be awkward as I need to zoom in due to bad vision, and that makes it jump all over the place sometimes. I guess all in all, my biggest complaint is that the Watch features, which I had to pay extra for, are awful. I will be looking for another app to use instead of this one. It’s a deal breaker for me to not be able to quickly access the app when it times out every 60 seconds. Very annoying.
