Mapstr – Save & Follow Places

I had been using this app for years, recommending it to friends, and generally loved the features. The one functionality complaint I initially had was that it doesn’t show a dot or even general area of where you are so it is harder to see proximity to your pins. But I understand it’s not a maps app so fair. Now, with being charged a subscription to add pins over 300, I will switch back to Google Maps and saving pins in my lists there. I understand that this is a product and needs to be profitable, but a subscription model is so disappointing. If there was a one time payment, I would do that in a heartbeat and I would be willing to pay a decent amount if it was a one-time fee. But with subscriptions these days, there is no guarantee that the model won’t change or prices will be hiked in the future. So while I can easily afford the current pricing, I don’t want to risk losing my pins when the payment models change and I can no longer justify a monthly/yearly charge for an app when there are free alternatives available. TLDR: I’d be willing to pay for this app, but not in its current subscription form.

I absolutely love mapstr whenever I have a day off I love to go explore news places right in my own backyard! Or if I am coincidentally in the area of a place I’ve marked I always try to make a stop, thanks to alerts that you can set. I could rave Al day about the customization of this app truly but, I did come here to say 2 things, one, that I wish there was a function where you could pin something and it would recommend you others like it or things others near that location have pinned! I think it would be a great addition because sometimes place really are hidden. Two maybe having a toggle function where you could see reviews for the place you’ve pinned if you wanted. I love having my own personal map but sometimes for places I haven’t been a review would be helpful. I understand that’s what the internet is for but having it streamlined into one place is just a little more convenient. I love this app with all my heart and regardless of what I think I will continue to use it forever :)

What a great little app! I found out about the app in a column on the Air France magazine last year and I can't believe how handy it's been since. I travel a good amount and I love tagging great restaurants in every city that I go to, and the ability to share makes it even more handy. Having the option to tag different categories (restaurants, discotheques, stores, etc) also makes it easy to look for all your saved places at a glance, and the list option sorts places based on distance, so if you save recommendations from friends you can find out how close you are to all of them and make a decision based on that. Legitimately very happy, and I wish the developer a lot of success!
