Lightning Tracker and Alerts

My drone went down during a sudden storm, since I knew the approximate time it lost connection, I checked the lightning history for that exact minute and found a strike pin nearby. The distance data narrowed my search to a 200-yard radius.

The live strike pins showed activity five miles from my planned trail. I overlayed the radar and saw a cell moving directly toward the mountain. Turned around at the parking lot, and decided to go hiking another day.

I was planning a garden party and checked the 24-hour lightning history. The hotspot map showed a cluster of strikes two miles west. Storms had been skirting my area. I moved the party indoors an hour before the first bolt hit.
