My learners get so excited to see a new and meaningful purpose for the camera on their phones. They feel so resourceful when they see how the Kai's Eye app (from phone camera) tracks their coding robots on the Kai mat. Just like professionals, they adjust the camera, test the positioning, learn from the immediate feedback how to best place their phone camera to cover all the robots without hindering the line of sight.
We started using these these kits for a coding camp this summer. It has been a disappointment. The app constantly fails and is shut down, and every robot disconnects. I tried to make sure that this was the only app running and still the app would shut down by itself.
