When it comes standard on the majority of note-taking apps, locking dark mode behind a paywall is petty and sort of goes against accessibility norms. I’d also like to see a one-time-payment option like UpNote to unlock all app/editor features, even if it requires us to self-host our data, and for JustNote-provided cloud storage to be an a la carte addon. And would like to see a Windows application at some point. I will update my review if these aspects ever end up being addressed, but in the meantime, I do not feel compelled enough to enter into a subscription when there are several other options that offer more base features for less or free.
Does w/ simplicity & clarity what many note-taking apps make unnecessarily complex. Intuitive UI, real formatting toolbar w/ text & highlight colors, plus E2EE — all free. $5/yr adds reasonable bonus features, like tags & customization. Unfortunately, tags aren't #inline, there's no backlinks or collapsible sections, syncing isn’t instantaneous, & desktop access is webapp only. Also, “new folder” is buried in Settings. But it does the basic better than most & is a great deal for the price.
I really wanted to like this app. I love the idea of simple and even the huge password is kind of neat not to rely on an email address. However the syncing is non functional. I can edit on one device, click the checkbox to save it. Then an hour later I open on another device and the changes aren’t there at all. Maybe a day later I will get a message asking me which version I want. The whole point of the app is synching across devices.
