My mesh WiFi router was getting old and starting to fail in small ways. My house isn’t large, but it features a large chimney in the middle that tends to block WiFi signals. I was hoping to replace my mesh with a single router, but needed an easy way to test different locations to see what gave the best performance throughout the house, and also to test performance between two different router options. This app was a big help in that process - I just picked a few spots in the house to test signal strength, marked those spots in the app, and it created a report for each router/location combination (I took a screenshot of each to make quick comparisons in Photos). This made my final decision very straightforward.
I have been looking for a better way to evaluate the performance of my home WiFi and came across this app. It provides accurate network speed, but the part that surprised me was the AR feature where you can measure the network speed at various places around the house and see the report using AR. This allowed me to compare the different values and see where the signal was the strongest or the weakest. The developer obviously put a lot of effort into this app. Very nicely done!
I have free apps that do most of what this app purports to do, and there are paid apps that do the same and more if you want to buy multiple apps. I don't need the advanced features of most of the network apps out there. So I would probably buy this as a less expensive basic all-in-one app if the developer were more honest about the "free version." Most apps of this type provide basic functionality for free and additional features as an IAP. With this app, you only get 2-3 speed tests/network (I have 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, and a mobile hotspot - I got 6 scans total) before every scan brings up the upgrade screen. The free Ookla Speed Test app for web, OS, and iOS will do basic speed tests, and WiFi Explorer Lite (OS, $1.99) gives you a basic spectrum analyzer. On iOS, I have a couple of apps (I can't remember if they were $ or free) that do the device scan and more. Therefore the only reason to pay for this app is the Security Check, but you can't try it. Since the app doesn't give you any free scans for premium features (and a limited number of speed scans), there's no way to evaluate them before buying. The App Store descriptions of the premium features are very general. Bottom line - free speed scans should be what brings you to the app, and a trial of the advanced features would allow you to make an informed purchasing decision. Anything else is throwing your money at the developer and hoping the app delivers what you think it does.
