Reviews: What People Think About V for Wikipedia

First, there’s the design that welcomes you into a much reader friendly version of Wikipedia. Secondly, its ease of use and the accessibility of its safari extension makes sure it’s quick to call it to task the moment my browsing leads me to a wikipedia page. And last but not least, its bookmarking, history, and ease of switching languages on the same entry have all made my Wikipedia reading more productive and pleasant. I’ve been compelled to write this review not by any kind of annoying app request (which as far as I remember this app hasn’t made), but simply out of genuine satisfaction and delight. I’ve purchased it a while back when it was featured by Apple’s App Store, since it was cheap and I’m an avid Wikipedia user/reader. Since then, it’s consistently been one of my most used apps, and one of those little apps that could, from an attentive developer who never fails to update and support the app. And that at no other charge, which at this day and age is a breath of fresh air. That’s another reason I’m writing this, as I hope this app continues to be downloaded and enjoyed by many more users, to their own delight and to the developers’ reward.

Worth every penny! Money well spent. Compared to regular Wikipedia, this app is better in almost every detail. The overflowing messy tables and awkward access to photos of original Wikipedia are solved here. Inability to smoothly backup your steps and organize bookmarks is solved. Word search on original Wikipedia is primitive, at best, but V for Wikipedia has an advance word search. There are many other improvements. V for Wikipedia, has “state of the art” formatting. Original Wikipedia is 10 years behind in its formatting. Original Wikipedia has an “old school” look. V for Wikipedia feels like you are working with the latest and greatest in user friendly software. If you do any research on Wikipedia, than V for Wikipedia will definitely improve the experience.

“V” presents Wikipedia articles in a much more visually pleasing manner than a web browser does, making the articles readable and joyful to explore. I particularly like the tasteful choice of fonts, that all sections of an article are expanded by default (unlike in a browser view), and that the table of contents is easily accessible at the bottom of the screen.
Illustrations are integrated into the text flow at a well-suited preview size, a single tap opens them to fullscreen (with caption included), and likewise closes that view.
“V” has become my preferred means for lookups and browsing Wikipedia. It’s convenient to launch from within other applications by means of the system “share” sheet.
