Reviews: What People Think About WU Storm

Hello. I just wanted to take the time to thank you for having such a wonderful app. I live in Orlando Florida. As you know we were just hit by hurricane Irma. I can't tell you how invaluable you app has been to us. We didn't bother watching the TV meteorologists because they tended to use dialogue that frightens you like catastrophic and imminent and deadly and huge etc... I guess you get the idea. We were already very upset about being in the situation. Listening to the news reports telling us how bad it was didn't make our mental states any better. I have lived in Florida since 1969. I know exactly how dangerous hurricanes can be. We took it very seriously and gathered provisions appropriate to the situation. But the reason I love your app is because I was able to pull it up as often as I wanted which was very often. I was able to see the exact path and most importantly read the national weather services updates every hour. I didn't lose power until the storm was only 70 miles away from us. By then, because of you, I knew how strong the winds were, where we were located in the storms path, what category it was and most importantly; that the odds of us dying were still conceivable; but highly unlikely unless a tornado hit. Peace of mind is an incredibly valuable gift when you are in such a dire situation. Thank you for creating the most amazing app. We will forever be grateful.

I’ve been using this app for a long time and it was good, could have been better, but still it was my go to for weather. The best part was paying $1.99 a year to remove the ads. Oh how I hate ads on websites, especially when they cause the page to jump around as they load over way too long a time. Well just yesterday my one year of ad-free bliss was shattered by an ad at the top of the page. Aside from being highly annoying it significantly cuts into the radar view. The app is no longer enjoyable and I will have to search elsewhere. Update ... the ads are still there but half the time the ad is for .... (wait for it) .... Storm! You have an ad for your own app, the one you are looking at right now?! Now that’s thinking! Bring back ad-free! Bring back ad-free! Bring back ad-free! Bring back ad-free! Bring back ad-free! Did I make my point?

Storm is still the essential weather app, even though the new owners of Weather Underground, The Weather Channel/IBM seem to be trying to kill it and promote migration to a glitzy low information "replacement" called "Storm Radar" the only thing SR does better than Storm is location specific alerts. Storm used to do that flawlessly, so I suspect this is part of the campaign to drive users away from Storm. At present, I have SR installed just to receive alerts. When I get an alert, or just want weather information, I manually open storm. TWC/IBM would serve themselves, their advertisers, and the public much better by scrapping Storm Radar and resuming full support of Storm. I'm sure the Storm Radar project is the brainstorm of a twenty-something whiz kid who thinks Storm must be replaced because it is "old". Well, like fine wine, some old things are better than new. If we applied that logic to TWC, we would all quit watching and switch to Weather Nation. What about that TWC?
