Facts - Daily Random Trivia

Love the app, widgets, and notifications. And I’m someone that hardly ever turns notifications on. Been using the app about a month or two now and would scroll endlessly, soaking up all of the intriguing info. I’m constantly annoying my teenagers with the fun facts I find most interesting. They’ve even asked to download it themselves now. I appreciate that you can favorite as many as you want. I also love that there are links to articles! Sometimes they’re outdated or don’t work, but that’s understandable when there are so many facts and you can’t control it if the source removes or moves it. They work majority of the time, so it’s not a big deal. If it’s something super interesting I want to read more about in those cases I just google it. The ONLY complaint I have that knocked off a star (but it’s a big one) is that after using the app for a few weeks, it’s now switched to half or more facts being trivia/question-answer format. I noticed the app name and icon have changed towards that as well. I find it awkward and really annoying to read it that way. I also feel like the trivia-like “facts” are way less interesting bc the idea is that someone might know the answer. Whereas the facts before were really obscure and I had never heard them before, so I was learning interesting things, not testing knowledge I might already have. There are plenty of trivia apps out there - let this one just be straight facts. Or, show the fact as the main thing and on the notification/widget, but when opened, below the fact you can show it formatted as trivia. That way if someone wants to scroll through and use it as trivia questions they can.

Honestly, this is a great app! It is super interesting, and really engaging! I’ve had it for a few weeks now, I really like it! Although, I have a few problems with it. First of all, some of the facts aren’t even true. This is a really big issue for me, because I don’t like being lied to. Also, for the human body category, the cover image is slightly inappropriate. I’m also a little frustrated with the fact I can’t access over half the app because of the subscription stuff. I don’t really want to pay for an app. Maybe, like, allow a few more categories for unsubscribed viewers. Although, I can understand why they charge you for it, so this isn’t really a BIG problem. Lastly, some of the facts are kinda inappropriate. Like, one of them was about, uh, someone’s privates. Those facts really make me uncomfortable. But, all things considered, it really is a great app! Thank you soooo much!

I only subscribe to the history category but will not pay for others based on what I've seen so far. Many of the presented "facts" are the equivalent of click bait; skewed summations of either true, partially true, or entirely untrue information, often distilled from click bait titles themselves so there's multiple layers of lazy information interpretation and distribution (basically the game "telephone"). For example, that Shakespeare invented the words "bump" and "assassination." If you look beyond under-researched blogs to legitimate sources you find that is not true, and is actually the product of other lazy researchers who listed words in the OED dictionary as derived from Shakespeare simply because he was more interesting to read than the legal tomes and historical records preceding him that used many of the words attributed to him, which in itself is fascinating, so why distort it? (source- Merriam Webster dictionary, "Ten words Shakespeare never invented"). These discrepancies become more serious in the "facts" pertaining to legacies of genocide, slavery, sexual violence and the like that are very common in this category. The way information is curated and shared is political. It should not be treated as click bait commodity. Do better research and present information accurately. There is still a plethora of amazing and actually true facts to be shared without manipulation.
