EM:RAP - Medical Education

I love EM:RAP as a podcast but this app is terrible. It loads so slowly, if at all. Even when it loads it can’t always handle itself; visible buttons won’t click because it runs so slowly. Even trying to post this review the app crashed. The is way too much fluff on the app; just have it load the content I subscribe too. It defaults to load the dashboard tab which is useless so I have to wait for it to let me click to audio. Even the audio tab has “continue listening” row that doesn’t work because it shows segments from a decade ago that I’ve never listened to. If I click “mark as listened” then that segment disappears and replaced with another never ending list of segments I’ve never listened to. Lastly, the new weekly format is dangerous. EMRAP has acknowledged that most listeners listen while driving. It used to be two easy access monthly chapters (EMRAP and EMA) but now they separate it to weekly so we have to do even more clicks that don’t load? Plus, each EMRAP chapter is inserted with several EMA summaries I’d have recurrently skip; just give me the autonomy to choose to listen to a summary or not.

Ever since the most recent “upgrade” to the app I have had nothing but problems with it. I have deleted and reinstalled multiple times with no correction of the issues. Emailed in to see what was up…. “Delete app and reinstall”. This doesn’t fix it. Frustrating. Can’t download episodes now without them being almost a gig or more?!?? Why? Used to be straight audio was 3-400Mb. This doesn’t help when you are on lower speed internet but even on higher speed it won’t do it.

EM:Rap came highly recommend, and the content really lives up to it. There are a lot of free medical education sources, but this is worth the money. Unfortunately, the app still holds it back a little (and it isn't a completely unusable app or anything). If these three things were resolved I'd definitely give it 5/5 Big kudos to the recent update that allowed in-app searching! 1) the most annoying thing that needs to be fixed is to change the lockscreen control to back and forward 15 seconds, not back and forward tracks. When I'm driving and listening and I miss something, I don't want the distraction of having to unlock my phone, open the app, open the player, and then hit back 15 seconds. 2) maybe it works for other people, but I haven't been able to view videos on the app. Even the mobile version of the website has a video option. 3) annoying, but the least of my concerns thus far, it isn't very good at remembering where I left off
