This app survived 1 workout because the UI is as advertised - attractive, clean, easy to see and understand. HOWEVER, itโs missing so so much. I use Apple Watch. During workout, thereโs no 3rd page to control music - not even AppleMusic. I could launch music separately but had to fumble between apps during my workout. Very distracting. Therefore, I also canโt set a playlist to start with a workout. Canโt select to hide the map. No announcements for intervals. No audible reminder to turn the workout off. No auto-pause. Best I could figure, settings is virtually non existent because there really arenโt any of the expected workout control settings. Nope, no stat preference selection or customizations I could find. I wanted simplicity, which this certainly delivers and is beautiful to look at but itโs so simple that itโs missing vital features - at least for my use case. I really wanted something akin to Apple โs native activity tracker but with step counts. This would be my goto if I could control music and hide maps and/or any metrics Iโm not interested in. Love the app. Itโs just a wee lite to use the way I want.
Yesterday evening I downloaded three different pedometers from the App Store for comparison with the built-in โHealthโ app: Steps, Pacer and Stepz. I have never used a pedometer before now. Then I went outside and did my stairs exercise in order to acquire my first set of data so as to compare the different apps. I must say that I like this app โ Steps โ the most! It is simple and straight forward, and it has just the data that I need โ steps, miles, time and flights โ without all of the extra data clutter that some of the other apps have. I also like the ease with which I can scroll left or right to see my walking history, or else tap on one of the seven day buttons, or else tap on a calendar button. The graphic interface is very clean and uncluttered, and the themes are pretty and easy on the eyes. While I paid the very reasonable and low price for the โProโ version in order to get more themes to choose from, I must say that I like the default โSunriseโ theme the most. ๐ Let me also add that the steps count with this particular app is very close to the actual steps I physically counted as I did my stairs exercise. I carried my iPhone in my front shorts pocket as I exercised, and I walked on flat pavement in the parking lot, as well as up and down two flights of stairs. The fact that this app integrates with the โHealthโ app โ and imports health data from the same โ is an added plus. For the aforementioned reasons, I give the โStepsโ app five stars! I encourage everyone to give it a try! ๐
Good app, surprisingly accurate with beauty in simplicity that does not sap battery power like similar GPS based apps. In its simplicity it does not have the "neat" mapping and graphs capability but in practice, having no Start/End button makes this practical. Apps that utilize the GPS will always have start/stop button to where you will eventually forget to start for no credit, or worst, forget to stop it to sap up your battery reserves. Honestly, walking is an anytime, anywhere activity, it should be recorded all day and why map it? This app simply capitalizes on the built-in iPhone accelerometer and the health app included in the IOS. It simply counts motions that mimics a step. At midnight it stores your days result then restarts at zero for the next day. If it's worth supporting the developer and getting calories then $1.99 seems worth it. It might count a non-step if your carrying the phone in your hand and perhaps by "flicking your hair" as others have commented. For best results keep the phone in your pocket as much as practically possible. This may not work so well if you keep your iPhone in a purse, just as the Fitbit was designed to be on your wrist. I find it plenty accurate. A GPS based app will likely give you more erroneous results. Turn on your favorite mapping app (or GPS based walk app) and lay it on your desk for a few hours. Through atmospheric conditions your phone will wander around a radius giving credit for walking just laying there.
