I got the subscription trial to try it out — I liked it. But, while it's not too expensive, it's not something I'd pay that much for. What is unfortunate is if the trial ends, you loose your account and everything you've saved. I wanted to look at my list, at very least, but it's not possible anymore. I get if the paywall was for being able to share rankings and connect with similar movie fans, but the entire account? There should at least be a free limited version with ads or something, in my opinion. It's 3/5 stars because I recognize that if I want this app, I suppose I should pay for it, but it doesn't seem right to wipe an account after subscription ends. Maybe a free version, however limited, would be a good option. There is plenty of free competition out there.
all of the ads (undisclosed btw) for this app claim that this is a great letterboxed alternative as it’s so much better because you can send DMs. maybe it is a better app than letterboxd… i will never know because as soon as i tried to give it a try and make an account, i was prompted to start a free trial that would auto renew for $30 a month. mind u, this app is marketed as basically just a movie recommendation (ai?) machine. you can also rank movies in tier lists and “connect with other movie lovers”. lettterboxd is free. there is an option to pay through patreon for no ads and other premium features but the app is completely usable and enjoyable without a subscription. this app feels like a cash grab rather than and genuine attempt to cater towards and create an app that film and tv lovers have wanted for a long time. i wanted to genuine give this app a try, however, i will not waste my time or money on an app that pretty much already exists and has a way bigger community. letterboxd definitely isn’t perfect (that’s why i wanted to try this app in the first place after hearing about it in undisclosed ads on instagram!) but at least it’s not shady.
I’m very new to the app so probably have found everything out quite yet but one thing I’d love is a profile picture to add. Very basic app for movie fans to recommend movies/shows and see others tier listings.
