TalkChinese - Learn Chinese

I downloaded this app with high hopes; I’ve been learning Chinese for a couple years now and was looking forward to improving my speaking skills. When I first opened the app, I was pleased to see that while many features required a ‘Pro’ subscription, there were free features, such as the flash cards, which not only gave an example of how a native speaker would say the word but also gave ‘scored’ your pronunciation, giving you a score from 1 - 100. However, within a few days of using the app, I ran into two main problems: first, I could not get past the third ‘level’. Each level has two parts: first a flash card set with 10 or so vocabulary words and second a scenario practice to speak with an AI bot using the vocabulary. I completed the first two levels, but for the third one, my ‘trial’ or something must have ‘ran out’, because each time I pressed on the scenario practice button for Level 3, a message popped up saying I had to upgrade to Pro to unlock this feature. I wouldn’t have minded too much —for a free feature, the flash cards were useful enough — however the issue was that I could not get past the third ‘level’ without do the scenario practice. This got me stuck for weeks trying to fix this problem, and I couldn’t go back to the other levels to review their flash cards so my learning was very limited. The second problem was that the ‘example’ audio had begun to glitch every time I reviewed my flash cards: ‘Audio Synthesis Failure’. It didn’t work whatever I tried and set me back as I had to blindly rely on my knowledge of the written tones to figure out how to say it correctly. At one point I had to rely on Google translate to learn how to say it correctly, a huge inconvenience. Overall, I was really excited for this app and wanted it to work the way it was supposed to. Unfortunately I was highly disappointed by it, and will be deleting it from my phone.

The scenario practice is way too hard, not giving an example of what to say (making me come up with the sentence) or giving an example but not the pronunciation, but worst of all it doesn’t give actionable feedback on the pronunciation, instead replaying an AI-interpreted version of what I said, weird.
