Inside Then Out

I bought this app in order to have the Dig Deeper journal prompts for journaling in my own physical journals. I use a favorite notebook for journaling that works well with my fountain pens, so I did not want the Dig Deeper physical journal. I was very happy to find that ITO had this app. The issue I have with the app is that it seems that in order to move ahead in the journal, you have to journal each day in the app. We should be given the option to move forward without having to put input into the daily journal pages of this app. Maybe just add a checkbox? If we had that ability, I would give this app 5 stars.

I bought the digital Better Every Day journal and have been enjoying it. Then I found this app - awesome right? No not awesome because I can’t find a way to link my previous journal purchase to the app and I’ve emailed all the contact us options at least a half dozen times and have not received any response for nearly two weeks despite their website and app saying I’d get a response in one to two days. It has been so frustrating and disappointing. I’d recommend buying the digital or hard copy Better Every Day journal except now I just don’t want to support this company at all. A company is only as good as their customer service and this companies customer service is non-existent.

I was really frustrated with the functionality of this app, but I also know that it is new so hopefully it will improve with later updates. Here are the issues that I ran into: • I downloaded the app last night and completed the first prompt, but once I returned to the homepage, the app had only saved the first two sentences of what I wrote. • In the free version of the app, you can only access one prompt per day, so I signed up for the paid annual subscription to access the rest of the journal and work at my own pace. However, the paid subscription also only lets you access one page per day. • As of this morning, the prompt still has not changed, and there is no option to move forward and access the next one. • The paid annual subscription costs the same as the digital journal for sale on their website, which does allow you to access all of the prompts at once. I recommend going with that option, as it is a much better value. • The reviews for the journals on the app are almost all test reviews written by an app developer or employee. If you’d like to see real customer reviews, go to their website. • The app also posted my review of the journal twice, which impacted the average rating (I’m so sorry!) You also cannot scroll down to read longer reviews in the app. • The formatting is also very strange. The text is very large and crowded, which makes it difficult to read longer pieces or edit your writing as you go. • The app also freezes a lot and loads very slowly. I had to restart it several times. I’ve heard amazing things about these journals and am still very excited to try out the digital versions from the site, but as of right now this app is way too limited and barely functions as a journal. You have no control over what prompts you’re given or when they change, and you run the risk of your entries not being saved and having to start all over. I think the concept is great, so I hope it will improve in the future. But for now, stick to the physical or digital copies from their site.
