Reviews: What People Think About Night Eyes - Low Light Camera

I have had plenty of experience as a boat captain often operating at night and I quickly learned that having passive night vision in my arsenal of tools was a extremely helpful. Over the years, night vision binoculars or monocular proved essential. When I first saw that I could get night vision in an app for my phone I was extremely skeptical. How could an app even come close to true night vision? Well, I tried several different ones before finding this app is the best of the bunch. I’ve been using it for almost a year now and I can honestly say, in spite of a slight learning curve, this app is the real deal. Does it compare with a pair of $2,000 binoculars? Yes. Granted, if you have $800 to $2,000 and up to spend, you will get state of the art light amplification. But this app is state of the art light amplification for my iPhone camera.. and I didn’t spend anywhere near what I spent on binoculars that are usually left on the boat. I take my Night Eyes with me everywhere. I. My pocket. When I need to know what’s out there in the dark, I have what I need to see it. This actually works. And it actually works quite well. Try it. Take a week or so to play with different settings to get an idea of how it works and how to see what you are looking at. I seriously recommend it to anyone who wants to see in near total darkness.

I live in a old home that has been changed up several times. When there was a power outage during the night time. When my mom said to get the emergency generator on, I had to go downstairs so I used this app to help me see down stairs. When I finally found it I started Hearing scratching in the next room. The generator started warming up and soon before the lights turns on I saw something walking near the door way to the room I was in. I hid in a corner with a bunch of boxes and hid for about 5 minutes while hiding I used the app to look around with out letting it see me by making a small hole with shifting the boxes around discreetly. I only saw a pair of feet near the box fortress. Almost screaming the generator started turning on and it fled outside! I carefully started getting up and I noticed the door the thing ran out and most likely how it got in... let's just say that I will from now on check all doors every night and lock them all!!! If I'd not download this app things might have ended up differently. Thank you... I hope that if you read this it was entertaining but every last word typed out is true, please! If you have multiple doors in your home, make sure to lock all your doors when you don't needed unlocked. Please be safe and he'd my warning! It might just save your life... hope you all have a nice day.

No, it doesn't somehow magically install an infrared detector into your device. But it does amplify available light. Apparently, it utilizes capabilities already present in your camera, but that have been limited through software to prevent overexposure or damage, I guess. The first simple test I did when I got it was to look into a closet with the light off, and with my eyes, items in the closet were just dark shapes or silhouettes, through my regular camera, basically just dark screen. Then, looking through this app, dark shapes became recognizable items with visible details, although monochrome and grainy. Where before, you couldn't see anything, with this you would be able to tell that there is SOMETHING there; before, where you could see that there was something there, with this, you would be able to tell what it was. this is one of those apps that you might not really use all that often, but when you really need it, it just might save your bacon, or ease your mind in those "Something made a noise in the basement, and the light bulb is burned out" or "There's some kind of critter just beyond the light on the back patio" scenarios.
About Night Eyes - Low Light Camera
Have you ever wanted to take a photo in low light conditions?
Due to complex mathematical algorithms Night Eyes provides residual light amplification in real-time for your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch without additional hardware.
The image is illuminated in real-time (without delay). You can also switch the light amplification mode to exposure mode for better quality. With an exposure time of up to one second you will be able to view the smallest details. It's ideal for twilight situations.
The luminance histogram shows you the brightness level in real-time.
Zoom in inconspicuously using the 10x digital Live Zoom - and shoot your photos.
You've naturally got many different color filters to choose from.
The most important functions are:
- Three amplification modes
- Up to 1 second * exposure time
- Residual light amplification
- True low light enhancement
- Real-time luminance histogram
- Volume Up (+) Photo Capture
- 10x digital live zoom
- Tap to focus
- Color filters: green, red, blue, b/w, sepia, etc.
- Take HD photos
- Landscape and portrait modes
- Supports the front & back cameras
- Supports LED lights
- Supports EXIF-data
*) only on supported devices
A good camera and a powerful processor are required, to get the maximum picture quality.
All the screenshots listed were taken with an iPhone and iPad and are genuine!
Please note that this app does not provide true night vision functionality. The iPhone, iPad and iPod touch have no infrared amplifier, as a result no pictures can be taken in total darkness; a minimal level of light is still required, which can be ascertained by the camera's sensors. The preview will also be delayed in exposure mode. In addition the camera must be held stable for exposure time.
