I was a customer for a few years, then got double charged my annual membership fee (which went up without my permission). Now the app doesn’t work at all for me, won’t connect and won’t download account info. I thought maybe something was wrong at my banks, but I bank with 3 different institutions and none updated. Swapped to YNAB and have never had any issues. While I had mvelopes, I consistently had issues with accounts updating, a crashing app, and a clunky web browser. My #1 issue, what caused me to switch, was the double charge for the annual fee. Reached out to customer service a bunch, no response. Out $90. Go to YNAB, you pay more, but everything works really smoothly and syncs across all platforms and users effortlessly. UPDATE: Wes @ support helped me out. He was able to refund me both charges (apple and annual direct). Super helpful. He explained that the reason i had so much trouble previously was because I had signed up for the new BETA transition and that some of the coding kept me in an error loop. All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with the resolution that he provided. It was all i asked for, I wish it had worked the first time because i really did like the software and how (when it was working) it sync’d between my wife and I’s devices.

As I read through the other reviews I was shocked how many feel the same as I do. This app used to be great and I have been using Mvelopes for over 5 years. Ever since they switched to the Mvelopes 5 it has gone completely down hill. I have to force my accounts to refresh to get transactions to load. Now my bank account has had an error for a month so I have to load transactions manually when I’m paying for them to track my accounts. I have contacted customer support many times and spent several hours on the phone trying to fix the many issues that I have had in the last year and most of the time they only correct the issue temporarily and I have to start over the next month or they say they are working on and will contact me to let me know what the problem is and they almost never do and if the do email me it’s to let me know they are working on it and then I hear nothing until I get fed up with waiting and call them back. I don’t know why this is so hard for them but I’m done. And don’t tell me to contact customer service like I see on the other reviews already been there and done that. I gave Mvelopes plenty of time to get the new versions kinks all worked out and it’s not happening. Don’t waste your time or money! I wish I could give Mvelopes zero stars. No one in their right mind would come back to this company after seeing the lack of communication when a problem arises. It doesn’t take months to fix an issue.

I’ve been using this tool for 2 years now. I loved it at first! It made budgeting easy. There were awesome features available like the funding profiles that made it easy to allocate your paychecks into all your envelopes. Sadly, they started doing the forced update of mvelopes 5 and it’s been terrible from the start. They weren’t ready to roll out the update and had to immediately offer a beta test version of the old version. This was no long term solution, yet it’s been this way for the better part of a year. I’ve stuck with them, hoping they could get everything fixed. It’s been so frustrating because they force the updates and everything gets messed up. I can’t rely on my budget through them any more. My budget seemed okay this morning and when I tried to enter an expense this afternoon, they had done it again. They forced an update and now everything is messed up. The system no longer has my bank accounts synced. A dozen or more past expenses, which I had already allocated, came back into my inbox and my envelopes don’t look the same as they were this morning. I started looking at other budgeting tool at different points of peek frustration with them. Its time to fully make the switch to something else. I’m paying for this budgeting tool and it’s not serving it’s purpose. There’s no good reason for it to take this long to fix the problems. They had a well running app a year ago. I’m disappointed.
