The video kept going to black and not reloading, or crashing altogether. Then when you go to reboot the app, you wave to watch an ad for 15 seconds, which causes you to miss action! You’d think the US Open would have good app developers but disappointed yet again.
This app is basically a waste of time. The developers at IBM really phoned it in here. There are countless mobile video players that work within reason yet somehow these donkeys can’t get one right for a major tournament even after this many years of “trying”. Not to mention every time you have to re open the player after inevitably freezes or crashes, you have to watch another 15-30 seconds of ads. Even if you want to just switch feeds, more ads. No other major tournament apps have this many ads, and the masters seemed to figure out a player that actually works. But if you can wrestle the video player into submission and somehow bear through the same ad 20-30 times, you will get to see some golf.
It’s a testament to incompetency that the USGA can produce a dysfunctional app year in and out. I’, not sure if they do this in house or use a company connected to one of the executives but this app should be blown up and never used again. It crashes at least every 15 mins, near impossible to get it into landscape mode, slow to load, gives you the feeling of a app from 2005 from someone just starting out in app design. I’m kind of shocked Mike Whan allows something like this to be produced. He’s a a pretty hands on guy but needs to hire a new guy to lead up the app experience. If I was the USGA, I’d call Augusta National and find out who they are using for their App.
