Reviews: What People Think About Prismatext - Language Learning
KSC2019
Rating: 4/5
So far I’ve had the app about a week. It doesn’t have the widest range of books yet, but it’s still a decent range. There was a point when it was a little glitchy, I contacted support and they not only responded quickly they got the problem resolved the same day. I would like if when learning a language it put in more of that language. Maybe make it so once we’ve seen a word once in our chosen language don’t let it appear in the original language we’re reading in again. I also wish that if I’m reading a second book then words I learned in the first were already translated to the language I’m learning but not sure that aspect is possible. Overall it’s been a good experience.

This app is a useful tool as part of my language-learning toolbox, alongside early reader books in my target language, textbooks, and other apps. It's a good way to get a broader range of vocab earlier in the language learning process ,compared to other resources. I've definitely learned some new vocab with Prismatext, as well as better internalized my existing vocab. I'm learning German, and it's been helpful to see the different forms (verb tenses, conjugations, etc.) that the same base word can take in different contexts, it's helped me naturally absorb some grammatical rules, rather than just memorizing. App functions well and is easy/intuitive to use. The only request I have is that I would love to be able to put the app in dark mode :) Really appreciate the effort to include a wide range of genres of books, and hope to to see the overall number of books increase as time goes on.

I think this is a great way to improve vocabulary. Unlike LingQ, it’s gradual learning, and you can choose how much you want to learn as well. But the translations, they’re done too much without context. Especially languages like French and Spanish, a lot of it is contextual, and I’ve had to submit a lot of feedback (feminine vs masculine in sentences, and speech). It almost feels like they Google translate a few phrases here and there or translate each individual sentence or word without keeping it natural. I’ve had to look in ChatGPT and DeepL to translate phrases that seemed off to me. Maybe I’m missing the process, but that has been a little bit of a turn off from the app, seeing how different the responses are from Prismatext, but how similar the translations are to each other in the two other applications. I still love the concept though and I’m hoping they keep improving the app! I love being able to read stories in another language.
